Mitochrondrial DNA is passed from mother to child. So even though Kwäday Dän Ts’ìnchi was male, he would share mtDNA with other female descendants of his mother. So I don't think they are tracking direct relations to him, but rather the female descendants (and their children) of his sister(s).

i don't understand how they linked this male person to other people by something that's passed on through females. i thought they were saying the link was a female ancestor of his, but if it's like you said, sisters of his, how was the link made to him?

or is this one of those things that's just too complicated to explain if i don't know a ton of other stuff to begin with (o.O)
