I'm officially mad at the Bay Area for not having air conditioning. Thank God my apartment at least has a pool. If only I had time to swim in it.

I've been back in the states for a few days, and I'm so freaking happy I don't even know where to begin. I'm renting an apartment with a girl I know from SlavDom and band-- such a sweetie. She was all excited about getting a new roommate and she got all new (coordinated!) furniture, so the place looks beautiful. I feel like such a grown-up. :) ( Read more... )

My parents and I have been having a lot of fun in Russia together. It's been a great experience to see this place through their eyes. It's also great to feel needed-- we've traveled to a lot of places together, and this is the first time we're in a place where I'm the only one who speaks the language, knows the customs, and knows my way around. I was walking home from the metro station tonight, and about a block away from my apartment complex, I saw what appeared to be the aftermath of a car accident. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this dramatic account of testing one's limits and doing something seemingly impossible, potentially dangerous, and completely stupid for money. And yes, if offered that kind of green, I'd totally try it:
