For the curious, after an hour on the phone and a talk with two people plus a manager, the oil situation has been resolved in an intolerable fashion. (They want to double our monthly payment and charge a minimum $2.89/gal for oil that I already know another company is selling for $2.59 right now. Mentioning the latter fact didn't get them to budge ( Read more... )

They're "full"? WTF? So it's probably not an isolated thing. I'm sorry they wouldn't do it for you. And I'm even sorrier that it's going to be a long cold winter for you too. At least you have the heating fixed and it's warm now? :)

I figure there's no way around concluding that Exxon is essentially gouging, or at least setting prices artificially high. Since if this last quarter were so "miserable" for them, they wouldn't have raked in piles of money, right? Dammit.

I'm not surprised about him either now that I know, actually - amused, but I'm just glad he's finally able to acknowledge his life partner. (They've been together almost four times as long as I've been married; that deserves at least equal recognition!)

Aiiiya. I'm sorry you're going through so much shit with the stupid oil company, hon. At least you DON"T have to run around like a madwoman to get everything taken care of, yes?

*hug*

(also, the only reason I'm not furious over the Exxon and Shell profits is because I'm a Shell investor. I figure I'm about breaking even off this)

Yeah, it could be worse. I've got time to replenish my patience and lower my blood pressure before I go looking, and they (inadvertently) gave us fair warning of their intent to screw us before it actually happened.

Heh, yeah, at least you're kind of win-win there. :) That's a nice safety net to set up!

Ugh - stupidheads!

Avoid TLC - they're the ones refusing to lock in my grandmother and being general buttheads.

Heh. Guess who the company I'm complaining about is? :) They're turning into real buttheads in *general* this year, it seems. If I find a good replacement (who isn't based in way upper MA), I'll recommend it for her.

Refusing to lock in? I got that much - we're price-locked, just at a horrendous price. Tell her to go bother a woman [manager] named Lorelei. ;)

That's too funny! Though not at all surprising! Yes, let me know if you find anyone good - she's reluctant to switch as they have always been excellent for service(like, coming out at 1:30am to fix the furnace last winter), but I think even she's getting fed up!

They really have been good in the past, but I think the bankruptcy of their franchise owner has driven them to new depths. Bleah.

I'm sorry to hear that it worked out that way with your oil company. I wish it would have worked out better. That is totally unfair to you.

Oil companies make me SICK! I hate that they make these kinds of profits and then claim that fuel efficient cars will put them out of business. OH SHUT UP! You totally gouge consumers and get away with it. Blech!

Yay for him and for Sheryl Swoopes. I just posted a thing about that in my own LJ. YAY! *waves pom poms*

Thanks for the sympathy; I keep reminding myself that at least I'm lucky enough to *have* heat this winter. :)

It's obnoxious, isn't it? So if we cut their profits by using better cars, they'd, what, have to put up with a measly $5 billion/40% increase?!! Poor babies.

I *just* missed your posting about Takei and Swoopes - but I figure it's a good thing that Swoopes is coming out now, where Takei had to wait until he was 68. It's progress, right?

It is really dumb. They were raising prices during Katrina to keep up with crazy profits, not to offset the cost of gas. It is just stupid and greedy.

It is progress, sort of... He has been with his partner for 18 YEARS! 18 years and he is just now coming out. It really makes me sad. For her, I am very happy she is coming out. But she came out because her partner bought her a huge diamond ring that she needed to explain. She does say that he mother will never accept it and neither will her hometown (in Texas). So... some progress. Some...

Wow, good for George Takei indeed! You know, I have his autobiography on my shelf but have never read it. I think I may have to pick it up. How awesome that he can come out at the age of 68. Also, best voice ever.

He really is a great guy; everyone who's ever dealt with him has gone out of their way to mention how sweet and generally wonderful he was. (Even Bitchy Shatner, as I recall.) And yes, the voice is just delightful.

Shatner said a few choice things about Takei in his book, but I believe Takei returned the favour (which is why I have both of their books on my shelf; my friend Chad, a disciple of the cult of Shatner, wants me to read them both and see what I think :P).

Huh. Guess I misremembered. Well, definitely read Takei's - I think it's unfair to let Shatner's opinions stand unrefuted. :) (From what *I've* read of and by Shatner, he's kind of catty and whiny.)
