Chekov writhed miserably in his bed, desperately trying to cool down. He’d caught a nasty cold while on shore leave, and the fever refused to let him get any rest at all, keeping him from the seep that would help him most.
The swoosh of his door opening had him dragging his eyes open. He groaned painfully, the light from the halls hurting his sensitized eyes, as his visitor came in, walking out of the doors sensors. He blinked up at the man, -he thought it was a man at least, what with the broad shoulders- trying to make his eyes come back into focus.
“Chekov, Jim told me you’re sick, came to check up on ya,” Doctor McCoy knelt by his bed and placed his hand over the ensign’s sweating forehead, “You’re burnin’ up kid, have you been able to get any sleep?”
The young man leaned into the Southerner’s cold touch, sighing happily at the brief relief. “Can’t, too hot.”
He heard the older man sigh as he removed his hand and moved off to the adjacent bathroom. He came back moments later to lay a cold wash cloth over his burning forehead. He hummed happily as the doctor ran another cool cloth over his arms, neck, face, chest, and legs.
He heard a soft hissing as McCoy ran a hand through Cheko’v curls as he spoke soothingly, “There ya go Chekov, that’ll help you cool down some. I gave you a mild sedative to help you get some sleep, I’ll give you another hypo to help your system fight off the virus after you’ve gotten some rest.”
And with that Chekov began to drift off to sleep, but not before
hearing the doctor humming a lullaby softly.
