Montgomery Scott cast a quick glance at the Russian ensign who had been spending more and more time in engineer volunteering to give him a hand, so they could have more time to discuss the latest advances in warp theory. It wasn’t that he minded the company, he was just curious, the lad had to have better way to spend his time then down with the engines and talking to him. With a confused hum he turned back to his work.
“Ah!” the sharp shout drew his attention back to his young companion. Pavel Chekov was sitting back on his heels shaking his hand through the air rapidly, his face contracted in pain.
“Och, Chekov! Wha’ happened lad?” He asked rushing the short distance to his side.
The young man looked up at him as he reached his side with a grimace, “I burned my fingers vhile reconnecting some of the vires. Is okay, I vill be fine. Ze burns are not serious.” He held up his hand to his friend to show how little the damage was.
Scotty sat next to him with a serious expression, gripping his smaller wrist to bring his hand closer to his eyes for inspection. “Tsk, lad ye shoul’ be more careful, don’ want ye damagin’ yer hands.”
Without even thinking he popped Chekov’s first two fingers in his mouth to sooth stinging. A choked sound made him realize what he’d just done. He pulled back letting the ensign’s fingers fall from his mouth, his face as red as his uniform. “O-och! I-I’m right sorry ‘bout that Mr. Chekov! I-I wasnae thinkin’ clearly an’-” He was cut off by a chaste kiss being placed on his lips.
“Nyet, you have no reason to apologize meester Scott.” Chekov was smiling warmly at him as he stood up. “I shall go to sickbay and get doktor McCoy to take a look at ze burns. Zen ve can go to dinner yes?” His smile widened as Scotty nodded mutely, blush still firmly in place.
