Summary: “Magda, look at her. She’s perfect.”

A grin split Max’s face as he watched his new daughter sleep soundly in the middle of their bed.

His wife’s voice drifted in from the doorway as he traced a finger over their child’s-their child’s-head, “Max,”

He looked over his shoulder and beamed at her as she quietly made her way to their bed. “Magda, look at her. She’s perfect.”

Magda hummed her agreement as she climbed into bed behind him and wrapped an arm around his waist, her other hand coming up to run fingers through his hair. She hooked her chin over his shoulder to watch their daughter, their Anya, as well.

Max leaned back into her embrace and sighed contentedly. The metal of her ring rested against his hip in a reminder of just how much they meant to one another; he could feel her necklace pressed to his back through the fabric of his shirt.

As Magda placed a chaste kiss on his neck he took her hand from his waist and kissed the ring that had its home on her finger as they murmured about where the future would take their little Anya into the quiet evening air.

Max reached his free hand over to touch one of Anya’s tiny hands and, in her sleep, her hand curled around Max’s finger.

He could hear Magda’s breath stutter behind him as she squeezed his hand and said, “I never thought I could have this.”

His heart skipped a beat at her quiet admission.

He turned his head to press his lips to her jaw and whisper, “Neither did I.”
