Compulsory reading for men, imo. Go on, it'll only take a couple minutes.

edit: just had to share this comment with you:"I’m sick of hearing about self-defense courses for women. How about self-control classes for men instead ?"
Something that had never occurred to me until now, rather foolishly. Thoughts?

I see parallels with the "stop child abuse" campaign - surely everyone already knows that child abuse is wrong.

However sometimes its useful to give these issues a public airing so people don't forget them.

Of course, the bit about every man deciding not to be a rapist is just plain stupid. That implies that men in their "natural" state are rapists, who have to decide to stop. Fortunately, I think thats not true.

No, but the overwhelming majority of rapists are men, so it seems a logical place to start.

I thinks its because of the physical aspects why women get are more prone to attacks. Women on the whole are not as strong as men. Also for a man to even preform sex there are bits of his body that need to go through transitions (do I need to go on)

Well, yes and no. "Abuse" is something that is wrong by definition, but not all people consider sex with people under 18 to be abuse. For example, in Iran the age of consent (and culpability, but let's not go there) is 9 for girls, and in the Netherlands a political party is campaigning to have it reduced to 12 and to legalize child pornography.

Comparatively, although most people will agree that rape is wrong, they won't necessarily see what they do as rape. The "she wants it really" myth is still disturbingly prevalent.

no not all men are bad :)

But you are on the right lines. If a person rapes they will rape whether they had a bad life or not. Its something thats already there. Plus how does some one think of that. How can an average person say to them selves that this is what they are gonna do. Again the path has split because there are oppertunists rapes where a woman/man maybe intoxicated and take advantage and then theres the kindnapping kind of rape. Either way a still beleive that there is something within that person without life effecting them that chooses rape and lets face it they do chose.

By they way its not just men. There are convicted female rapists as well.

Something like 4.5% of male college students in the US responding to a survey admitted that they had forced a woman to have sex with them against their will. When asked whether they raped them, the % figure dropped significantly. That is to say, a lot of men seem to think that certain behaviours are acceptable, when in fact they constitute rape.

I just can't understand how people can answer like that. It's like saying "yes, I've eaten chicken, but I've never eaten poultry". The only reasonable conclusion is those people don't know what rape is. Rape, by its very definition is forcing a person to have sex with them against their will!

Oh agree with you and I know that is the point you were making to start with. I was just also debating that maybe these people were born that way its not just the attitudes of society.

Yup. Certainly, when I saw that figure, I did not think "only", I thought "how many?!"

If rapists were born that way, or became rapists because society made them that way, then it would be unfair to punish them.

That's interesting. I'm going to filch it, if you don't mind.
