I don`t know, english is not my mother tongue and all the time I`ve been learning it I was convinced that it was loose rather than lose. Well I guess I was wrong there ;)

Ehh, I'd never have known by that that you weren't a native speaker--too many of them get it wrong too, lol. I just get picky about it, 'cause it makes a difference to the quality of the creation whether the spelling is right or not. The way to remember it is the rule that the double O goes with the S sound, the single O goes with the Z sound. Hence "loose", pronounced as written, is the opposite of "tight", or "tighten", depending on whether it's being used as an adjective or a verb, and "lose" means to misplace or forget the location of something, and is pronounced "looze". One looses the shoelaces but loses the shoes. The other thing to remember is that "loose" is not often used as a verb, so if you're using a verb, it's more likely than not to be "lose".
