How weird. Last night just before I went to sleep I felt a similar need to get the hell off facebook. I am sick of having no control over which of my comments are visible to others and all the other things that are wrong with it. Also my mistrust over what things might suddenly become visible at the whim of the owners.
Maybe it's in the air. The vibe has changed for me lately. Maybe I just have to find another way to use it? Lock it down to very few people. I don't know.
I agree that the vibe has changed, but for me it is because we are just not seeing people's posts. Facebook is controlling what is streamed by "importance" meaning memes and photos that have been around the block a dozen times show up over and over (every time someone likes or shares them) and personal posts are seen least if at all.
It is just bad design imo, it is the latest update that has lost me (we now have to PAY to have our posts promoted to a "wider" audience - and the kicker is, that not only do we have to agree to allow our posts to appear with a whole lot of extra advertising, thus spamming our own friends, but facebook still isn't showing those posts to our entire target audience - it is only "up to" 85% of them!!!! It is pathetic.)
I've had a better FB experience since deleting all family members but I still have days where I want to delete everyone and just add back the LJ girls. So much racism and apologist behavior. It makes me ill. My SIL found me on instagram though so now I have to deal there instead! The other day I posted a pic of me in yard clothes and detailed how I was sexually harassed in my front yard - my SIL responded with "hahaha you crack me up!" which makes me wonder if she really is as dumb as I think... and makes me fear for my niece if/when she first encounters similar behavior.
Oh Charm, your SIL!! That's it! That's the sort of stuff that just makes me scream. Not only but also, I am really trying to drill down to why this stuff annoys me so much when a lot of people can just ignore it. Am I an angry person?
What the hell with your stalker, Tracey, that she was onto you that fast. That's just scary, Trace, scary.
I was just thinking today that I log on and all I see is stuff that other people have "liked". WTF is up with that! Who fucking CARES! And there is so little control over what you can choose to see or not see.
I downloaded an app a while ago called defriender (or something like that). If I logged in I could see if anyone had unfriended me and if people deactivated it came up immediately. A few people deactivated and I was RIGHT ONTO them!
I have the app- it's why I knew that you'd dissapeared from facebook (and not surprisingly lj was the first place I looked)
Facebook has killed the 'connection' online, there's more info there than you need but LESS than you need at the same time. I like to read the things that people I care about have to say, that's why I like lj so much.
Totally get it Bec, am glad you are here though xxo
Hey how weird is this. I just went into that unfriend app on my phone to check out what it did when I didn't have an account.
And it reactivated my account without telling me! I just received an email telling my account was reactivated around the same time and I'm thinking that's the only thing it could have been. Unless FB really are that devious.
