Raising Cultured Children

I thought this was interesting. The British Film Institute made a list of 50 films that children should watch by the age of 15. Pretty eclectic list, if you ask me. Not that I disagree with a lot of the choices. Of course, there are a number of films on that list that I haven't seen yet...actually a lot of them.

Films I Should Have Seen...And Should Definately See Before Making My Kids Sit Through Them )

It looks like a Special Edition DVD is in the works of My Neighbor Totoro. No release date is set, though.

I've been intending to watch some Japanese animation at some point, like Spirited Away or Grave of the Fireflies but I just can't bring myself to do it for some reason. It doesn't seem to hold much appeal for me. I've heard great things about both of those movies but have not had the desire to sit down with them. I hear though, if there is a master of Japanese animation, it would have to be Hayao Miyazaki. I'm sure I'll find out...someday.

Princess Mononoke is another really good one. I've always liked anime, though I know it doesn't appeal to everybody.
