Oh. OH. This is an amazing start. I'm reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series at the moment, so this is coloured in shades of that for me, but I've read The Road too. It broke me into so many pieces, and I just... the idea of meshing that with Vince the Sunshine Kid, good grief. I can't wait to see where this goes!
The Road broke me too! I studied it for a year and by the end I just had no faith left in humanity. Really this story is me attempting to have faith in humanity :D
I can't imagine studying it. :/ It was bad enough having to talk about it with people - I was working in a bookstore at the time, and it had got all those awards.
(I'll look forward to having some of my own faith restored.)
Glad to have been of assistance with this story - I am loving its atmosphere of brooding melancholy and poor lonely Vince wandering around among the wreckage, still being Vince and attracted to sparkly and impractical things and able to grab a moment of happy forgetfulness while listening to the music.
And such a cliffhanger of an ending - can't wait to find out what happens next!
I'm so glad you were of assistance to this story! Your help was invaluable - especially with stuff like the two colons (what the hell was I thinking?).
I'll send you the second chapter when it's ready, if that's ok with you? :)

(Is it a bit wrong that I've just read the words 'two colons' in your comment and had a filthy thought?)
