[The talk wasn't going as well as he'd hoped...]The talk wasn’t going as well as he’d hoped. He’d envisioned a room full of bright, keen young faces when he’d written it; students who were eager to learn and willing to fully commit themselves to his words of wisdom and experience. Instead, most of the brand new First Years looked exhausted and hungover. One lad had fallen asleep in the back row

Ohhh, this is heartbreaking! I think I am sort-of beginning to see what's happening here and I felt so, so sorry for poor Vince when he realised that this Howard didn't know him after all. Both of your Howards so far have been wonderfully Howard-y. Love his lecture (is it based on ones you have attended personally?) and the thesis about the literature of the Jazz Age and nobody being interested in it... very funny and also a little bit sad, too. Can't wait to find out what will happen next!
You are beginning to understand what's going on...but are you really understanding? (Yes. You're probably understand it better than I am and I'm writing the damn thing!) :D
The lecture is massively paraphrased from the first ever lecture I went to - the one where the lecturer put a photo of a giraffe onscreen and said, "Is this modernity?" and we all went, "No...that's a giraffe." I reckon Howard would be quite good at dealing with clueless students.
I'm really glad you're enjoying it! Thanks so much!
Christ, this us so good! I want to chuck my phone thru a window for being so slow and this house is going thru it's own window for bad reception. I guess the upside if being behind is I won't have to wait a whole day for anoer chapter. I am not positive what is happening, but u am certain it is fucking genius, just like you.
Right so look, you need to know that I'm a bit in love your brain. This reminds me of something I read aaaages ago, which reminded me of something I read even earlier, and the whole concept is just... *makes hand gestures* I'll spare you the incoherency for now, and move on to chapter three, yes? Yes.
