So the bastards at Sony delayed the release of poor Fiona's new album - Extraordinary Machine - for months now. They claimed that they don't know how to market the album, and had a hard time picking a single that's radio-friendly. They want her to re-record the album. What are you fuckin' kidding me????! They did sign her knowing that she's ( Read more... )

Those bastards. I've been following the album debacle and it seriously irks me to no end. Fiona has a fanbase of listeners. Release the album and it will sell. Jeezus! I heard Extraordinary Machine a couple of months ago. I like it.

I think with Fiona's music in particular, it grows on you. Just over the past year I've been going back to her Tidal album, and I appreciate it more now than I used to.

I know. It's sad. We've been waiting forever for her new album, then this shit happens. Just so many kinds of wrong. Also, I can't imagine how she'd feel. I mean, she said that she wasn't even going to make another album, cause it's just too much. And when she finally was in the mood, and got to work with her producer, Sony drops this bomb on her. No wonder Jackson was pissed.

Don't get me started on this issue. I've been steamed about it ever since the article came out last month. I listen to EM & BVOM on my iPod constantly. I only keep hoping that they will just release her and she can find someone that will give her music the chance it deserves. I realise Sony will never let that happen, but I'm staying delusional for a bit longer. *fumes*

I hope that too. This is exactly like Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot all over again. The problem is, both of these artists are signed under major major record labels, and the monsters don't favor artists who experiment. This is something no real artist should have to go through. It's bullshit. Argh.

Yeah, the Fiona drama really irks me, too. Like you said, did they know know who they were dealing with? She has a unique sound and even if it's not entirely radio-marketable, she has a lot of loyal fans who will come out and buy her cd. Sigh. Damn the man, and all that rot.

I love your Liger icon too, by the way. I'm actually in the middle of making a few Napoleon Dynamite icons myself, and I'm jealous that you beat me to it! Oh well, we can be a Napoleon Dynamite Icon-Having team and like...fight battles together and stuff.

Haha, I was going to make a bunch of ND icons too. But I sorta got distracted after making the liger icon, and then I wasn't in the mood anymore when I came back to the "project". So go make all you want, I retired.

Your Virgin icon is scoring a lot of points btw. I was going to make a bunch to have as default for the layout, but my ADD prevented me from it once again. And I'm so glad you made one for the boys! I was going to do one with them holding the candles.

Blaz! Yay! Nice to hear from you again, even if you seem pretty miffed. ;)
Alas, living in the UK (my pathetic excuse anyway) I have never heard any of Fiona Apple's music, though from LJ I know well enough that she is to be revered and adored. *g*
Hadn't heard Interpol until recently, but I'm quite fond of Slow Hands. If you say that's one of the weaker tracks on their album, then wow! They must be good!
Oh, and nice icons. Especially like the Child at Heart one. :)

Ah, you're missing out! I wouldn't listen to those tracks to be introduced to her first though; they are very different to her previous work. I recommend listening to When the Pawn (........), especially: Limp, Fast As You Can, A Mistake, Paper Bag, and the rest of the album. They're all good.

Slow Hands is very familiar sounding to Turn On the Bright Lights, so it's not a bag song in that standard. But since this is a new album, it sets up a new competition. Listen to the first album first (ie: Roland, NYC, Obstacle 1, PDA)...to get a sense of where Antics is coming from.
