Yeah, if you don't have the passion for the academia of a field of study or don't have a passion or great interest in the work that majoring in that field would yield, it's probably a good indication you shouldn't be doing it :(

... not that I know exactly what I want to do with my life or my degree, but I DO know that I love studying psychology and doing research in the field.

As a Japanese major, I feel your "wtf is this good for" feeling. From people I have talked to though, your major matters little into what you can actually do. Besides, communications is like theater, but with words instead of acting.
