The Borgias.

Let's get this out.

Cesare did not sleep with his sister. Pope Alexander VI did not sleep with his daughter. There is no historical foundation for the rumor of the secret Borgia poison. The infantus romanus was an illegitimate child, yes, but not a product of incest. Alexander VI was no more corrupt than any other Renaissance pope.

Oh hai, long time no see. :D Love your historical rants, always very enlightening. And while I personally don't know all that much about Renaissance Italy and can't really contribute to the subject, I can so understand your anger about people repeating unfounded rumours like they're pure truth. So, thumbs up for ranting and bringing some wisdom among the people. ;)

hahah I've been around, just lurking. Uni's kept me busy like no other. :p

It's really just with the Borgias here - and really. The rumours are too...well...normal to be true. I mean, history tends to be just what you'd expect or so fucking crazy it has to be true. Incest and psycopathic murderings of people is just to, well, unimaginative.

Besides, no historical evidence what-so-ever. Other than anti-papal tracts and books dedicated to Alexander VI's papal rivals. So of course those aren't biased sources. xD

hehehe. A little of two things - one being a rather silly DA community dedicated to the Borgias filled with people who apparently know very little about the Borgias beyond the fact that they're in a video game and Cesare is handsome, and the new HBO series coming out (same peeps who did the Tudors). I'm a little terrified about how bad it's going to be. The Tudors at least had some redeeming features. Not sure about this one though.
