3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you're writing about fictional places)?I'm VERY picky about my character names. They have to either have a specific meaning or the characters have to name themselves. Ideally, both happen. I hate it when author's get so creative with names, that I can't even figure out how to pronounce it. It means that every time I read that person's name in the book, I pause to think about how it would actually be said. Very distracting to the flow of the novel. If you have to tell me in the course of the book how the name is pronounced, it's not worth it.
