Reflections on two years in England

As of this past August 21, I have been living here for two years. In some ways it seems as long, but in others it seems as if it can not possibly have been. Time flies when you're having fun I suppose... or when you're too busy to notice. So much change in almost every aspect of my life ( Read more... )

I am glad your spiritual journeyings are going well. And I look forward to the renewal of vows shindig!

As to the married life bit, I do (respectfully) disagree; I consider being married to be quite a different thing from living with someone, and I do expect - and hope - that my relationship will change when (if) I get married. But, of course, I believe that marriage is a sacrament, so I would think that. But I am very happy that you and Adrienne are happy. Long may it continue! And you should come round for tea sometime, neighbour. :)

Perhaps I should clarify.

I too believe marriage to be a sacrament. In my beliefs, I am now bonded to Adrienne not just for this life, but for all future ones until we are both 'off the wheel' so to speak. That's quite a big commitment, and it is something that I hold with a high degree of reverence.

What I was referring to was more that our day-to-day relationship has not drastically changed since the marriage. If our interaction and daily life changed dramatically, I would be concerned that it would be a result of the post-nuptual euphoria; a thing that inevitably will fade and mellow out into a settled and (hopefully) fulfilling life together.

In short, I like the fact that our relationship doesn't have a feeling of 'So now that we're married... (insert completed sentiment here)' We're just here and in love and chill, y'know?

That's really nifty about the book! I, for one, would be excited to see it.

If you're doing any flag-planting regarding the English longsword texts, you may also want to drop into the Schola Gladiatoria and Sword Forum boards as well. Most of the research and writing on medieval martial arts seems to happen in cyberspace rather than academia these days.

Thanks for the tips. It's that very reason that I'm trying to bring what seems to be a rather marginalized field of study into the more recognized academic circles. Here's to crusading for legitimacy ::clink::
