You HAVE to be obnoxious and self centered to be in this line of work. I struggle with it constantly, but I know that i have to build myself up somehow instead of always having a defeatist attitude. I think it's great that you have a positive attitude about any part, because I know that I don't and in the end it just ends up hurting my performance, which I hate

Just being an actor makes you obnoxious! Lol, just kidding. Maybe you need to be a little more self-centered (secretly)?
Don't change yourself, be you, that's what makes you so great. Don't change, but build yourself up. Tell yourself (and only yourself, not trying to get anyone to hate you!) that you are as wonderful as you are, tell yourself that you can play the parts you want because you have the training and the skill to play the part. Let yourself explore new archetypes (in acting only). Those parts and that attitude don't have to define WHO you are, but maybe just define how versatile your SKILL is.
It's all make believe, so amaze them with your on stage versatility.
(And if they still want you to be someone you aren't then maybe it isn't the place for you, maybe they aren't the people for you. It's not you, it's them and if they can't appreciate you as you then they are missing out and there will be people out there that GET who you are and what you want to do.)
