So people are supposed to just walk up to you and tell them about their awesome weekend without asking about yours? Its just more polite.

I think'll make more rules then you think...I think they serve more purpose and work better then you're giving them credit for...I suppose it depends on the person, but rules have always worked for me...and I'm a happy person. We all just get caught up in...well nevermind...I just want to say that they aren't so bad.

And about the grey area...isn't everything the grey area? Most of the time there's "yes" and "no" and everybody is a pain in the ass and goes with "maybe".

i dunno if i agree with you on the rules thing. i was raised on "don't make the grown-ups nervouse", i've never had a cerfew, and i've never been grounded. but i always know that there is a reasonable time to be out until, and there is not. and i've been taught that, so i'm not rebeling and staying out until 3 am just becasue my mom wants me home by 11 thus making her worry about me. i don't know, its worked in my family. and i was using the example of a 6 year old walking on a porch railing for caroline, a parent would be more nervouse about the 6 year old up there then a 10 year old, so if you jsut a have rule of dont' walk on the porch railing, then its a nucense to change it, and it will make kids want to rebel against it, but if you just say, i'm nervouse because the fall is twice your height at 6, but at 10 your stronger and could probably survive the fall, not to mention your balance has improved in those four years. i'm rambling now but i think its a good rule to have and i think that alot of rules get to completcated and ( ... )

See, I've never had a curfew either, but that doesn't mean all rules are bad. And just saying "don't make your parents nervous" means nothing...how are you supposed to know all the time what makes your parents nervous. I mean some parents are nervous about teens driving in cars with other teens, does that mean the kid with the nervous parents should never drive in a car with other teens...with rules you can get permission things can change...yet there's always some sort of structure. And not to use your own example against you. But say you're the six year old and the railing that you're walking on is the act of making rules...maybe when you're ten (or 30...however old) and you have your own children you will have a better understanding of that railing also...you'll have a better balance...or maybe I will...I just hate to question things that have been around for so long sometimes...not always...but sometimes I have to admit that the way things are isn't half bad.

yeah i see what your saying, and i thinkt aht the way you are useing rules is a good way to use them as well, i just don't enjoy seeing people getting grounded all the time for breaking rules, like driving in cars with teens and other such nonsense where if there aren't rules to break theres nothing to worry about.
