If I'm sounding cynical, I apologize. Sometimes I think we all just want too much. There isn't a day when I've had to tell my children to go hungry. We always have a roof over our heads. We have access to a wealth of entertainment and education, and for the most part we are free to go and do as we please. And yet we all seem to be on a perpetual quest for improvement of ourselves, our lives, our jobs, etc. When can you just enjoy what you have without wanting more?

I think there's a balance - "improvement" for its own sake can be as shallow as anything else, but it's possible to accept where we are with a certain gratitude and still want something more or different. I could enjoy my time with Jordan if I worked 60 hours/ week in an office, but I'm glad I took the steps to spend more time at home and didn't accept that as an inevitability. Others aren't so lucky, but my taking those steps hasn't diminished them or robbed them of opportunities.

BTW, you're entitled to your reactions and I haven't taken your comments negatively. I'm glad that you and others are engaged in this process, as it's making it much more fruitful for me. Part of the point is just putting myself out there, but part of it is also reflection.
