I like everything but country. Country has an ugly beat. But I used to hate b spears and n'sync but I've grown to stand their music. I realized all music is great. That it may have helped some person at one time or another. I used to hate b spears and all them other people was because I was jelous. Jelous that I knew I would never be them...

you know its rather useless to be jealous of those people who lack a lot of the qualities that you have
your jealousy only serves to make you like them anyways
kind of ironic huh?

They probably share some of the same "qualities" as I do...

I can never get into country either.. but I like mostly anything. I never feel any kinds of hatred towards any type of music. Usually what is labelled alternative and progressive is what I like.. In the last year I've been listening to more trance, ambient, and industrial. I am really bad with categories.. I like artists and I have no idea what "category" they are in. I like music when it touches a fiber in me..it's just the specific way it sounds.. and then it's the lyrics. I just have this chemical reaction to certain music. I might even have heard the song 5o million times but one day while driving in my car I might be in a certain mood and all of a sudden the song may just click with me..It's unpredictable.

I blissfully listen to house/trance/electronica, but I also enjoy rap and hip-hop, like old Scarface, Beastie Boys (what category does this fit into)? Gravediggaz was a big favourite. I don't mind some of the Top 40 stuff if it has a mellow beat. I agree with most of the other comments; country is pretty ugly music. It's kind of undeveloped and it sounds deliberate.

So anyway, I recommend:
-Blue Tonic World
-Avalanches
-Gorillaz
-Talvin Singh
-Air

Please check these out, they are superb!

Maybe because of where I grew up (hickville USA) I like country, but I also love old rock (thanks to my mother) and I found a love for techno (thanks to Ali) and I adore punk (thanx to jon) and the list goes on to cover almost all music. I don't really even hate any certain types... I may not listen to all of them all of the time, but I notice I usually go through weekly phases. One week I am totally in love with my old 2Pac cd and the next I simply would die without my Dido... but, my parents made it a point when I was little to let me listen to whatever I wanted and to expose me to as much music as possible... so I have a love for almost every form of expression...
This got me thinking, what made people choose their favorite type of music? And is it simmilar to their friends and parents... or were they striving to be different?
Hmmmm.... how about you ask that question too... might be interesting?
