People are emotional. That's how they connect with everything from the way a song makes them feel, to what a simple smell will remind them of. Most everyone is afraid of being wrong because we're molded to always want to be right 100% of the time, therefore people can't make many decisions by themselves, they need the approval of their peers to make themselves feel right. If your peers agree with you, it avoids all possible conflict in reasoning.
