Occurred to me today that, as we've been defining the sides in the U.S. lately, the military ought to be among the farthest-left institutions in the country. Consider:
  • Affiliated with a strong central government
  • Provides comprehensive, single-payer health care (with emphasis on preventative treatment, no less)

communal living and dining? standardized uniforms.

if one is willing to take orders and risk their life, army life is a GREAT deal. Housing, food and you get paid on top of that.

That was like Captain Tylor's whole plan, right? Remember that anime? Great show.

The military is organized in a very socialist way. I think the biggest difference from traditional leftist socialism is the external and destructive focus. War is usually the result and I think the nazis are often used as an example of this. That reminds me of Hetalia...
