Jinni, What or who are they?

This post has been inspired by a question in a community I watch. A well known author was asking about creatures similar to the European Fareies, and Jinni (Genies) were mentioned ( Read more... )

Very interesting -- I have only read superficially about Jinns. The one thing about faeries is that they aren't created by *God* and are older than Christianity. The Christian Monks who recorded the Fairy tradition in Ireland either converted them or killed them and or both -- The rest were demonized --

So, it seems as though they have a different origin then Jinns

A bit of a belated reply here, but thanks so much for this. It helps to have things condensed down to a summary, which gives me something concrete to hold onto as I go looking into more detailed information.

There is actually going to be a jinn in the next Onyx Court novel, visiting London, and I'm particularly fascinated by the differences between that tradition and the European notions of faeries (what they can do, what repels them, etc).
