Text:
Sagrestano: [pa-]rola. Or ne giunse la notizia!
Coro: Si festeggi la vittoria!
Sagrestano: E questa sera gran fiaccolata, veglia di gala a Palazzo Farnese, ed un'apposita nuova cantata con Floria Tosca! E nelle chiese inni al Sig-[nor!]

Tempo Still Allegro con spirito dotted quarter = 132, but with many fluctiatoins: Tratten., tornando a tempo, poco allarg., poco rall.

Time mostly 6/8 but with 3 bars of 9/8 thrown in.

Bar 1: 9/8 Strings (except CB) conclude their sweeping gesture up and land on C natural (the top of an F major chord). Tbe 1-3 and Cr 1-2 play the frenetic 8th note figure from before ff with every note accented in F Major. In the last 16th beat they shift down a step to E Major.

Bar 2: Strings (except CB) play a pizzicato accented ff E Major Chord. The Tbe and Cr. conclude their phrase on the first quarter note. The Ott., Fl 1 2, Ob. 1 2, Cl. 1 2, take up the frenetic 8th note figure now in E Major and mf but beginning to crescendo. All notes now have staccati instead of accents except for the high slurred note (the penultimate note in the phrase) which is still accented.

Bars 3-4: Shift to 6/8. Upper woodwinds continue their phrase for 2 measures smoothing out rhythm entirely to 8th notes in the 2nd bar. Enter Coro: "Si festeggi la vit-[toria!].

Bar 5: Momentary shift back to 9/8 upper woodwinds complete the first beat, and 2 notes of the 2nd beat then drop out. In the last 8th of the 2nd beat only Fl. 1 remains and doubles Vni 1 2 who now enter f with the main melody in octaves trattenendo. Fg 1 2, Vc., Cb. AND Timp. (cue) enter on the 3rd beat with the tonic (A) accented. Cr 1-3 and Vle. (and sometimes 4) play on the 3rd sub-beat of each beat now. Ob. 1 2, Cl. 1 2, and C. Ing. play a constantly shifting counter melody. There is a hairpin diminuendo for tutti. Sagrestano sings in unison with main melody. First outbreak of real melody in the vocal line in this section.

Bars 6-10. Instruments continue as before (Fl. 1, Vni 1 2 with melody; Fg. 1 2, Vc., Cb with bass; Cr. 1-3(4) and Vle with 3rd sub-beat in each beat ("pah" of "oom-pah") creating a syncopation; Ob. 1 2, C. Ing., and Cl. 1 2 in constantly shifting countermelody. On the 2nd beat of Bar 6 begin tornando a tempo. Hairpin diminuendo continues through to the 2nd half of bar 7 and ends in tutti p

2nd half of bar 7 - 1st half of bar 9, Vc. Cb. = pizz.

N.B.! Bar 9: See rhythm in Vla and Cr. 1-4. Instead of being on the 3rd sub-beat of the beat, the instruments play on the 2nd sub-beat. This is the only time this happens in this section. An error?

End of bar 10: poco allarg with hairpin crescendo.

Bar 11: end C. Ing. All other instruments continue as before. 1st half of bar tutti f with immediate hairpin diminuendo. 2nd half of bar tutti p, a tempo dim: Vc., Cb. = pizz.

Bar 12: Ob. 2, Cl. 2 finish their lines, hairpin diminuendo continues, tutti come prima.

Bar 13: Cr. end after first beat syncopation, Fl. 1, Ob. 1, Fg. 1 2, end after first beat. 2nd beat: Vc. = arco, violas begin a syncopated tie over the bar. Also in Cl. 1
ENTER Bs. Cl. on 2nd beat playing bass legato (reinforcement of Vc. line).

Bar 14: almost an exact repetition of Bar. 13 as far as melody and placement of bass goes. At this point it's just strings (with Cb. playing only on the downbeat), Bs. Cl. and Cl. 1.

Bar 15: Cb. finally arco. melody and harmony stagger into a poco rall.. Cl. 1 and Bs. Cl. finish on the downbeat.

Vocal style. After the initial "or ne giunse la notizia!" (which emphasizes the characteristic leap up a 4th that is in the frenetic 8th note melody) and the "Si festeggi la vittoria!" the Sagrestano sings along with the main melody. breaking with it only on the tornando a tempo of "veglia di gala a Palazzo Farnese,"
