Interesting article from Michael Kaiser in the Washington Post today entitled No Bailout for the Arts?He makes a very strong case for a government subsidy (of sorts) for the arts in these troubling times. Of course, you know that if the pwecious professional sports industry were in trouble, Congress would fall all over itself to bail it out.

The last Depression gave us WPA, which gave us Copland, Thomson, and many others. Could we expect something as good from the Dub-pression?

that is such a good point. Can you imagine if baseball were facing bankruptcy (gasp!) There would be speeches about how it was our NATIONAL PASSTIME! A SYMBOL OF AMERICA! OUR GOD GIVEN RIGHT AS AMERICANS!!!!
