Title: Shape
Challenge: Fanwork-a-thon, "2. Barney/anyone - Portrait painting."
Characters/Pairing: Will, Barney (Will/Barney implied)
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Summary: Barney can't quite capture him.

There's something about Will that a simple sketch can't contain. Barney doesn't know what he is anymore, but he feels it somehow -- and it tries to come out in his drawings. Even when he has Will in front of him there is something about the round, cheerful face that isn't quite enough, isn't quite right.

He's wasted whole sketch pads of paper on trying to get it right. First it was the eyes, and there were pages on pages of Will's eyes until he could do it right. And then he would start and the nose would look completely wrong, and so out would come the practice sheets and so the bins would fill with screwed up bits of paper. And then it was the shape of his lips, and even though Will let Barney sit in his lap and trace his lips, learn them by feel, for a while he couldn't draw them either.

If Barney were a more superstitious boy, or a more religious one, he might have thought there was something more than odd about it. But all the parts of him that believed in that has been deadened, dampened, when his memories were taken away.
