It is a difficult thing for a mother to leave her newborn children. Alison doesn't think of it as "leaving", really. It's more that she's handed them over to two people who would have snatched them away sooner or later, anyway. Somehow, she got even less argument than she thought she would when she asked the twins' live-in grandparents to watch

Hana was happily gumming Daddy's finger. Alison wondered if the baby was hungry. They were both acting like they might be.

She reached over and gently pulled the damp cotton out of Aiden's mouth and plucked him out of Longshot's arms. "Are you hungry, little man?" She smiled at him and rocked him a little.
No one was around and she was getting better at it, besides. So she carefully pulled up the bottom of her shirt and adjusted the nursing bra so that she could feed Aiden.
