I know, weird thing to comment on, but those are the best designed toilets ever, IMO. No touchee, no germee.

The real problem was squatting with my questionable knee. Getting into a squat not so bad- getting up can be touchy. Which is why I went ahead and stripped from the waist down. There is toilet paper in the stalls, but nothing to dry your hands on after you wash them. Most of the people carry handkerchiefs for that. It's been quite an adventure!

I'm loving reading your travel journal!

I got used to using the squatty potties in China. When they are ceramic and flush like that, they're fine and I actually prefer them to our sit-upon toilets. But when they're just an open slot over an outhouse hole that's been in use for maybe 500 years, it's not so fun.

Those little curtains over the doors are supposed to keep the flies out, I thought ... I could be wrong. When I part them as I walk in, I always feel like Toshiro Mifune in a Kurosawa movie.
