Summary: An older and wiser Future!Canon!Xander has his soul placed in the body of an alternate universe version of himself who was vamped on Valentine's day.

Meanwhile in a different, younger universe a different, younger Willow was attempting her first major spell. In another life she may have been be injured and reinstating a cursed upon a lost ally's soul in a moment of desperation, in this world she was whole and calm, determined to enact a powerful healing ritual to return what the brother of her soul had lost in blood and death.

The budding young witch lay out a silk cloth and carefully marked out a trefoil knot in a blessed charcoal stick mixed of birch, juniper and oak ash. Her every movement was strict and controlled, she couldn’t allow any weakness that might cause this spell to fail, it was too important. In a level, even voice she intoned slowly, articulating each word with infinite care, “I call on the power of three by three by three.”

Next, she placed a brazier in the center overlap of the triquetra. She slowly added bits of shaved wood, calling out their names and purposes as she added each type. “I call on the purifying power of Birch to bless this new beginning. I call on the longevity of Juniper to maintain these souls in good health. I call upon the endurance of Oak to protect and seal this healing.”

The brazier started choking up thick, soupy smoke that dripped heavily to the floor and lapped at Willow’s ankles. Her skin crawled at the touch of the swampy looking mist and she shuddered at the swirls of movement she could see within it as it flowed over and around the furniture and blocked out the electric lights. She stomped down on the fear that threatened to overwhelm her and concentrated on her task.

She placed three white pillar candles at the outside points of the design, naming them one by one as she lit them in order. “I call upon the Maiden and Mother and Crone to reunite the bodies and minds and souls of three sons of the Aurelius line.”

The flames of the candles and brazier roared as they doubled and then tripled in size, blazing towards the ceiling. Willow locked her spine, gathered her determined courage and refused to back down or step away.

This would be the tricky bit. The other elements of the ritual were all basic stock and unlikely to react badly. This was the moment that would make or break her spell. She had to trust that Ms. Calendar was still willing to help. “I call upon the spirit of Janna, lost daughter of the Kalderash, victim of Angelus; lend me your aid in completing your work. I call upon Enyos, uncle of Janna, lost son of the Kalderash, victim of Angelus; lend me your aid in completing your work. I call on Magda, Elder Woman, lost daughter of the Kalderash, victim of Darla; lend me your aid in completing the work you started.”

A phantom wind whipped through the room, throwing red hair around, testing her concentration and resolve, but she ignored it, no longer shaken by the signs that her ritual was working. They had responded and that was all she needed.

With extreme concentration and precision she placed each of the three Orbs of Theuselah within each looped arm of the triquetra, setting them carefully so that they didn’t roll. “Alexander Harris, Xander, youngest of the line, I bind you with your true name in the name of the Maiden, in the name of Janna and with the power of Birch, William Pratt, Spike, sire of Alexander, I bind you with your true name in the name of the Mother, in the name of Enyos and the power of Juniper, Liam of Galoway, Angelus, sire of Drusilla and Penn, grandsire of Spike, I bind you with your true name in the name of the Crone, the name of Magda and the power of Oak. “

She swirled her hand through the smoke from the brazier, leading it through the same long sweeping movement she had used to draw the triquetra. It took on its own current, following her direction and writhed itself into a knot tied around the crystal orbs.

“Birch and Juniper and Oak. Maiden and Mother and Crone. Janna and Enyos and Magda. I call on the power of three by three by three to heal these sons of Aurelius. Return to them what has been taken from them through blood and violence. Give back their immortal souls and bind their demons from doing harm, harm to themselves and harm to others.”

The lights all went out at once and perfect darkness engulfed the room. Slowly three points of light flickered to life as the orbs began to glow, weakly at first and then stronger and stronger before the light became blinding. Willow was forced to turn away and shield her face with her arms. There was the purest chime of a phantom bell, once, twice, three times and the Orbs shattered, crumbling in on themselves.

The electric lights came back up. Willow stared down at the crystal shards, warped metal bowl and melted wax that lay scattered in front of her and whispered, “So mote it be.”
