Owl from Fiammetta Kyteler to her sister Addie, dated 28 August 1942

Lightly warded, and in Italian:

Dear Addie,

Mamma says she is sorry she took your first letter by mistake! It is not hard to read. The second one is fine, too. I will certainly ask Hadrian about the green lemonade! He does like his sweets, doesn’t he? But Endymion is worse. Did they always steal food from each other’s plates, or have they only done it since they decided to get engaged? I have told them they are going to get fat, when they each get twice as many sweets as they need so the other can steal as much as he likes, and between the two of them they eat it all, anyway!

But they have cake for days now. Lady Malfoy had a cake made just for them, and we all got to have some, but the top part was theirs to keep for themselves, and they are probably still eating it in bed like the greedy boys they are. They are on their best behaviour for now, because Endymion wants Mamma and Pappa not to regret deciding to let him live here too, but who knows how long it will last. I shall be vigilant! Mamma and Pappa think they will get married for real within a month of leaving school. Not that what they did wasn’t real, but it is not legal outside of Lady Malfoy’s lands, which is good, because I think they want to get their NEWTs! Also I don’t think it’s permanent.

I will make them give you some cake when you come on Saturday. If they have not eaten it all before they come home! I look forward to seeing you then.

All my love,
Fiammetta

PS: I will probably be in a lot of trouble for telling you about this if your mother finds out, and after the trouble I got into earlier for telling Jenny Moody where we were going to be, I should probably not send this at all! So you have to act like you don’t know anything, because if our father finds out that your mother knows because of me, Mamma will be reading my post not just for the rest of the summer, but probably the rest of my life!!! But you really should know, because Hadrian says he got the idea from you.
