This kind of story always makes me so sad. :-( However, I seriously doubt that gender bias or gender identity really had anything to do with it. Anyone who would beat a toddler to death for annoying him was going to do it anyway. Whether the actual thing that set him off was the toddler acting effemininate (?), or smearing poop on the wall, or crying noisily during the football game, doesn't matter. It would have been something else the next day. The baby died because he had a violent psycho stepfather. It wouldn't have mattered if he was the macho-est 2-year-old in preschool, the perp would eventually have found some other dumb-ass "reason" to kill him. IMHO.
