Holiday rant

You know.. I have been noticing a lot more that people have gone from "Merry Christmas" to "Happy Christmas"....

What was wrong with the other way? It's like American sensorship is killing our holidays and classic TV programming anymore...

well I knew the big ordeal a few years back was people taking the word Christmas totally out and going with the generic happy holidays. Maybe this is just the newest rendition of trying to feel out what people feel most comfortable with.

I've said 'Happy Christmas' for years. There's nothing new about it.

Happy Christmas? I haven't really heard of that. I either hear Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. I really don't care which. Merry Christmas is proper because whether you are Christian or not it is still a federal civil holiday.

Well your right, it is still the holiday. Just noticed a bit more are saying happy christmas.. Just very different then what I was use to growing up with around this area. Seems a little odd to me.

"Happy Christmas" is the standard greeting in Britain. It's also in the original version of "A Visit From St. Nicholas" ("Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!") although this is often altered to "Merry Christmas" now.

So, this isn't a newfangled thing. If anything it's a revival of an older tradition.

I guess I didn't know my other neighboring cultures as well as I thought I did. I guess most other nations say Happy Christmas.. Must be my little town I grew up in that was back woods LOL.

not entriely, the world isn't as small as it seems, cause the town where i was raised and brought up, it was always "Merry christmas" not very much of happy holidays or happy christmas... just makes you see the other cultures of the world.. i was looking up online earlier, and apparently it is a christmas tradition in some middle eastern countries to dress up as demons and make kids crap themselves in fear. so i thank god everyday that i was raised somewhat decently~sigh~ have a merry christmas to all and to all a good sleep afterwards!
