I remember in my photo classes at Miami talking about how digital was going to eventually take over photography and obsolete film processes in much the way lithography, engraving and the like became printmaking processes only used for artistic endeavors rather than commercial printing. And here we are, and most people who photograph now don't know what they're missing... Eventually all that will be left of the films we love are filters you can apply in Photoshop.
As for "digital is good enough", this same phenomenon is happening to recorded music, the MP3 is really cutting down on expectations in favor of bandwidth.
