Ahhh...

The sweet, sweet smell of redemption.

No, no. I don't mean I've found religion (again), or made good on any of the many wrongs I've inflicted in the past. This is much, much more shallow. I finally passed Beethoven Virus in Hard in Arcade mode on my new Pump It Up: Exceed game for the PS2. With an A. ^_^ For those who are regular readers of this ( Read more... )

You should hear Beethoven Virus (Starcraft Mix), then. XD

Just downloaded it. Now that was both very cool and absolutely hilarious at the same time. ^_^

And the answer is... yes to all the counterclockwise ones... but I missed the clockwise one. That one is hard. ^_^;

Haha... I still need to learn how to spot spins in Pump. I can only catch them when I'm anticipating it.

Oh, the same with me... but I'm getting better spotting them in songs I don't know... at least when it's already halfway done. ^_^;;

The thoughts of a dancing (I use that term loosely) niichan amuses me greatly.

That being said, Canon D isn't really all that great - though I suspect it's one of those songs that is deceptively easy on Normal mode. ^^;

Oh, the term is so loose when applied to me that it can hardly be described as fitting at all... or even touching, for that matter. ^_^

If you like DDR and Pump, you might like my current favorite music game. They just announced it for a US release in spring of '06, and to make things even sweeter, they're combining two of the japanese series of it into one release:

http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/puzzle/beatmania/

The US compilation itself will have a combination of songs from both the original 5-Key beatmania series as well as songs from the 7-Key beatmania IIDX series. I personally am more of a 7-Key person (I own every japanese PS2 release of the series thus far), but it's very difficult to learn 7-Keys. 5-Key on the other hand is really easy.

Pump it up is hard as shit. :oP At least, coming to it from a DDR background. I tried playing it (for free, it was part of an exhibit) at the local children's museum and I thought, "Hey, neat, I can do this," but when I tried, I couldn't get my body to grasp the concept of diagonal arrows. I obviously didn't try for very long, though, as it's not very fun to look that stupid in public for too long.

Shortly after I left the machine, two young teenagers who volunteer there got on and, of course, did exceptionally well. -_-

"You must unlearn what you have learned!"

I can see how coming from a DDR background would probably be worse than starting from no base at all, in many ways. You have a lot of muscle memory tied up in the DDR pattern, and you're fighting that when you see the diagonals. I'd give it another shot, though. I've played a bit of DDR, too... and compared to PIU, it feels more... restricted, somehow.
