Recommendations for Music & Books?

Feb 10, 2009 21:33

I used to listen to a ton of music.  Then for some reason, I haven't listened to much in awhile.  Some old stuff, but a lot of stuff on the radio nowadays shits me.  However, I just seem bored of a lot of both old & new music.  But I want to get back into it, so any recommendations by people?  I'm pretty open to various types, though not a huge fan ( Read more... )

I know some of them, but I'll definitely check them out further - I have liked what I've heard so far!

I've heard a lot about Anne Rice, but never actually read anything (and still haven't seen "Interview with a Vampire"...I suck!) Any of her books that you would specifically recommend?

I can't upload you any music because I'm not on my computer, this one's the spare one, I'm supposed to get mine all fixed and with extra space today. Also, I have most of my music in it. Aaaand I have a very varied taste so I'll just name you some of my favourite bands and will try to upload you something when I get my computer back. Anyhoo: Damien Rice, MGMT, Simon & Garfunkel, Vampire Weekend, Feist, Emiliana Torrini, Sarah McLachlan, Kate Walsh, Plain White T's, Travis, Carrie Underwood, Scissor Sisters, Snow Patrol, Vanessa Carlton...can't think of anyone else atm :)
My favourite book of all times is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brönte, it is quite known so you might have read but anyway. I like anything by Jane Austen as well.
Love you! x x

Sweet - thanks for all the suggestions! I don't need any Simon & Garfunkel or Sarah McLachlan, but if you ever want to upload any of the others, I'd be all for it ;) Some I know, some I don't know, but I'm always up for checking out new music. I'll definitely be looking into some of them :)

I cannot do the classics, I've tried to read Jane Eyre, Pride & Prejudice, and others...and I just can't get into them. Maybe I'll try Jane Eyre again!

*hugs*

Music:- My favourite band is Blur (no surprises there!) it's Britpop at its best, some quiet songs, some banging, some dreary stuff for when you're in the mood and some totally upbeat and fun ( ... )

I know the mainstream songs by Blur (ie the ones that have been released as singles) but I should check out more of their other stuff!
Thanks for the rest of the suggestions - I know a bit of stuff by some of them, but there are a lot of new bands there. I'll definitely have to check them out!
Haven't actually read anything by Pratchett, but I've heard lots of good things. Will definitely check it out too!
Thanks for all your suggestions :D <3

lol I've been bored with "current" radio music for years! I mean sure sometimes I want some music to listen to while doing housework or something or in the car when I'm bored, but really, if it doesn't have substance, I get bored of it easily.

I'm currently reading some Agatha Christie, which is well written (of course). It's good if you like mystery stories.

I used to read a lot of Agatha Christie, but haven't in ages. Any that you would recommend?

I'm only on my 2nd book right now (which is apparently one of her first books). Although I've heard several on cd and I've watched the Poirot and Miss Marple series on tv. There was another just mystery one called... totally blanking lol it was set in Egypt or something though and had to do with archaeology (can't spell... tired) among other things. Okay I looked up her novels. It wasn't Egypt it was Baghdad and it was called "They came to Baghdad" we listened to that on cd. It was pretty good and it wasn't Poirot or Miss Marple. :)

I realized I have one of their songs on my computer when you mentioned that (someone online on a music community uploaded a bunch of Aussie music) I'll have to check out more of them! :)

Thanks for the suggestion!
