What a challenging and rewarding year.  I think it deserves a post, not only because I'm procrastinating this morning, but because I want to remember this past year and if I don't write something down... it's mostly lost in the abyss of time.

You lost a friend in getting the supervisor position? I did not know that much before.

I did indeed. We were suddenly not even on speaking terms. He was really pissed and made it very uncomfortable for me.
