“Dave” Andy hollered, “you were drunk texting clever bot again last night.”
“How would you know? I don’t remember” David called back.
“You closed the main window but left the thoughts so far window minimized.” Andy burst into laugher.” “Neal you have to come read this.” He managed to shout before bursting into laughter again.
David entered the room followed shortly by Neal. The two men went to stand on either side of Andy at the computer. “Do we have to do this?” David asked.
“Yes, especially this time.” Andy answered.
“It can’t be that bad Andy.” David said a little sulkily.
“Let’s start with Cleverbot's opening of ‘I like ninjas’.” Andy pointed to the line on the screen. “Now see where you went David?” Andy proceeded to read the lines out loud.
“That’s not bad or very funny.” David responded.
“It gets better. I’m just pointing out that you started on your main topic right away.” Andy pointed out several other response that were funny but that did not live up to his hype. “Then we get here.” Andy pointed at the screen and promptly started laughing only to be joined by Neal seconds latter.
“Enough guys. So I was drunk texting about my boyfriend let it go.” David knew it was hopeless. In fact if it had been Neal or Andy he might well have been the one reading it a loud. He was mostly protesting on principle, mostly.
“This is were it gets really good.” Andy managed before bursting into laughter. It took him a moment to calm himself enough to scroll and point and he didn’t bother trying to read out loud this time. He knew he couldn’t get through it with out laughing.
Neal laughed for several moments before gathering himself enough to lean over Andy and mock whisper to David. “When I take over you can have the third Tuesday of other month. I know you’re better at fucking than shoe shinning.”
Andy groaned even though he was used to such comments by now. David was silent for a moment before speaking. “I’m never drinking again.”
“You said that last time.” Andy pointed out.
“And you’ll fucking say it again next time.” Neal chimed in.
“Alright you had your laugh can we drop it?” David asked.
“But there’s more” Andy answered. David didn’t like the grin on the younger man’s face. “It’s the best part.” Andy highlighted the relevant text and preceded to laugh his way through rereading it. Neal was soon laughing as well. David stood in silence because, really, there was nothing he could say.
When Andy finally stopped laughing and caught his breath he turned to David. “Just don’t ever tweet when you’re drunk.” David could only nod and Neal was still laughing. Andy continued “You end your epic texting with one last insult to Cleverbot.” David groaned. Neal finally stopped laughing enough that he could read.
After a moment Neal turned to David. The whole thing was hilarious and David loved him enough to drunk text Cleverbot about him. And Neal loved David. “David Cook fucking well knows who Neal Tiemann is but reinforcement never fucking hurts.” Neal grinned and David grinned back.
Neal and David just left Andy sitting at the computer missing Jennie. Neither one heard the younger man sigh because they always behaved like that. He was used to it.
