This is the
merry_smutmas recs entry, so all the authors are anonymous unless otherwise noted. I'll go back and give the names when the authors are revealed. Obviously, all of the fic/art is going to be NC-17, as well, unless stated otherwise.
Art:
♥
Twilight Time. HP/SS. NOT WORK-SAFE! Harry is so gorgeous here, and I love Snape's body and the hands behind the back. I suck at art critique, but go take a look anyway.
♥
More Gifts to Come. HP/SS, spanking, channish, crossdressing, also NWS! The curve of Harry's back kills me, as does Snape's expression.
Fic:
♥
Body and Mind. LM/HP/SS. HEED THE WARNINGS, cause the author's not kidding with the non-con bit. I followed
cordelia_v's rec for this one, and I am so glad I did. It is painful and you feel dirty reading it, but it is so good, so gritty and filthy. Snape is spot on in this, as well, ambiguous but not really if you read it right. If you can get past the crushing reality of the rape, you'll be well rewarded with this one.
♥
Bound and Determined. Light and fluffy post-HBP SS/HP fic. What? I hear you cry, Light and fluffy post-HBP? No angst? How could that be? Well, it is, and it works. Very sweet (almost too much, to be honest), with an appearance of the elusive virgin!Snape. Just the thing needed after the previous rec.
♥
The Fourth Year. HP/SS. We've all read this, yes? It's hard to even find words to describe how awesome this is: plotty and brilliantly in character, and the smut, when it comes, is well worth the wait. Snape is so snarky and sarcastic and funny - I couldn't stop laughing during the interview scene - and the ending is perfect. Oh, hell, just go read it.
♥
Consolation Prize. HP/SS. Very slow, gradual buildup, with believable enmity between Harry and Snape. It never devolves into overly fluffy crap, either, which it could easily have done, and the ending is very satisfying and hopeful.
♥
Nothing But Scars. HP/SS. Excellent, post-HBP fic in which Harry searches for Snape, the last DE to escape justice. It has a wonderful mood, rather...derelict is the word that springs to mind, like an old house. I don't know if that will make sense to anyone but me, but there you go. The ending is perfect.
♥
Moment, by
femmequixotic. HP/SS, Rish. A rec that's not actually part of smutmas! A very lyrical, quiet look at this pairing, and how it could come to be, despite all the barriers between them. Lovely and moving.
Meta:
♥
firebird5 discusses
the point of HBP, which I have been thinking since the book came out but couldn't say half so well. Basically, HBP was written to be subverted in book 7. Worth a read, even if you dearly loved HBP and thought it was brilliant.

Wears Jump Suit. Sensible Shoes. Uses Husband's Last Name. (originally titled "Marked Women, Unmarked Men"), by Deborah Tann. Not Harry Potter meta, but a feminist reading of culture, and how every decision of a woman "marks" her as a specific type, whereas men can remain "unmarked" if they choose to do so. Very interesting reading.
A wee music spam because I am utterly obsessed with this song:
Indochine + Brian Molko - Pink Water.
In other news, I got my final grades today, yaye! A in Accounting and the Teaching Mentorship, A- in Chaucer and Intro to Lit Studies. I firmly believe my Chaucer professor upped my grade because I used the words "problematizes" and "hermeneutics" within the first paragraph of the final paper, as she is a slut for theory.
