Weaknesses:
Naruto's got two major weaknesses. The first is his temper. When he loses his temper he can lose control. He doesn't think as clearly and in canon there have been times when he's just ignored the advice of his peers or even his superiors ( ie Kakashi ) and just rushed in or almost rushed in without thought, when he's angry. If an enemy knows how to make Naruto see red, he can really come unstuck. He values his precious people and causing them harm is a good way to make him lose his cool.
The second is that he's not the brightest person around. While Naruto is cunning, and he can be pretty damn smart, he can be totally confused sometimes, especially if a conversation edges on things he knows little to nothing about. Like say, technology or even philosophy. Yeah, he'd just be lost. It doesn't even need to come to that however, as Naruto is a hands-on learner, he doesn't put a whole lot of stock in explanations and prefers to learn by doing. Which again isn't necessarily a good thing. Basically he can be kinda stupid sometimes. If you add his naivety into this, it's a potential recipe for disaster. There are times when he is so determined to believe in the good in people that it lands him in trouble.
Another weakness is his inability to give up. This is as much a double edged sword as anything is. Naruto can be stubborn to a fault, he has a habit of taking on more than he can handle and if it doesn't crush him, it obviously means he can deal with it! Even when he can't. He's also impulsive, this ties in with how he doesn't often think things through. He has a habit of rushing in first, and thinking later. As a shinobi this is a really bad idea. Just in general it's often not very helpful. He can be pretty rude, which means he can and does offend people. He can be proud in that he doesn't like to admit when he's wrong. He can be competitive over silly, childish things. All weakness and character flaws.
In combat he is not without his weaknesses either. Naruto has a tendency to fail before he succeeds, this is true of almost every fight he's ever been in. In spite of that list of abilities up there, nothing is effortless for him. His plans often go awry, his summoning techniques often fail and he has many limits. That tendency to rush in too often works against him, especially in combat.
He can't use Senjutsu for an indefinite amount of time for example, and as such the technique comes with its own time limit. Not only that, but gathering the chakra necessary to even activate the technique, requires Naruto to remain totally still.
Not exactly helpful while in battle. While he has found a way around this by using clones to gather chakra and then summoning them, it's still a make shift solution and it only works if Naruto has set aside the clones in advance. Not to mention that if Naruto doesn't maintain the balance of chakra while gathering Senjutsu, he could turn to stone.
Similarly, using the Kyuubi's chakra is a dangerous gamble. Naruto himself has been warned against using it for too long. The problem with using Kyuubi's chakra at all, is that while he's using the Kyuubi's chakra, then the Kyuubi is using Naruto's chakra. Think of it as a temporary trade. It's very dangerous to stay in this mode for a prolonged amount of time, because if the Kyuubi drains all of Naruto's chakra, then Naruto will die. Meaning that, again, there's a limit on how long he can stay like this. He has also been warned against using clones while in this state - which is a technique Naruto tends to favor - as splitting that chakra, again, means that the Kyuubi uses up more of Naruto's chakra, more quickly.
For all his speed and strength while in this state, Naruto can be injured like a normal person while he's like this. For example, when he put his foot through a wall due to moving so fast, he hurt his leg. Later, we see that his hands can be burned too etc. Using the Kyuubi's chakra does not make him invulnerable, far from it in fact.
Strengths:
Personality wise, Naruto's drive and determination is probably his biggest strength. Once he sets himself a task, he'll see it through to the end, come hell or high water. There's just no saying no to this kid once he gets an idea into his head. He doesn't know when to give up, and his tenacity is borderline inhuman. It's not that he can't be discouraged, but it's never enough to stall him completely. He's pretty indefatigable.
His faith in people, and his ability to have faith in people is, I believe, a strength. He has a willingness to reach out to others as well, and though it can at times backfire, overall it has proven invaluable to who Naruto is. As a guy who is ruled by his emotions, by his heart, even as a shinobi it's far more a strength and a weakness.
His optimism as a strength as well. In spite of the crap early life has thrown at him, Naruto has retained an optimistic streak and it works well alongside his determination, allowing him to prove again and again that 'they do, who think they can do'. ie: that believing is half the battle.
He's not bad in battle either. He is adept at taijutsu, and has been show to practice Kawazu Kumite. His stamina is well above average. Tactically, though he's not the brightest shinobi around, he manages pretty darn well in canon. He's taken down Pain - all six bodies - using the intel and recourses available to him, as well as on his own skills and intelligence. He was able to pinpoint the source of the Raikage's scar, again, using intel available to him, and thusly create an effective method
of attack.
He is physically fit with a distinct emphasis on upper body strength. He's not as fast on his feet as other ninja, at least not unless he uses the Kyuubi's chakra, but his punch packs a wallop. He can also
break through solid stone without using any chakra at all; just on pure physical strength and probably a heady dose of adrenaline.
abilities/powers:
All ninja in the Naruto universe are taught basic taijutsu, as well as ninjutsu techniques. Ninjutsu techniques involve the use of chakra, which in return lets a ninja do things a normal person can't do. The list might be a little long, but here are most of the techniques Naruto can use.
'Nawanuke no Jutsu '(Rope Escape Technique) Basically, a technique that a shinobi can use to undo and untie knots when captured, in order to escape.
'Kawarimi no Jutsu' (Body Replacement Technique) This is again a basic technique where a ninja replaces their own body with something else, like a plant or animal or even a weapon or log. It's used to confuse attackers.
'Bunshin no Jutsu' (Clone Technique) This technique creates a clone of the original person, used as diversions. Basic bunshin like this can't do an attacker any damage, they're not real, which leads me onto;
'Kage Bunshin no Jutsu' (Shadow Clone Jutsu) Again this is a cloning technique, but in this technique each clone is real. Likewise their chakra is real. However the clone's chakra and original user's chakra is evenly distributed, meaning for many there is a limit to how many clones they can create. Naruto is one of the few exceptions to this, as he has an abnormally high amount of chakra. In canon he can create literally a thousand clones without breaking a sweat. 'Kage Bunshin' clones usually disperse after one hit. They're excellent for espionage as all the information a clone learns is transferred to the original user. However the fatigue of each clone is also transferred to the original, in that sense it's a double edges sword.
Stepping up from that is the 'Tajuu Kage Bunshin no Jutsu' (Multiple Shadow Clone Technique) Just like the Kage Bunshin, this is a technique which creates clones, however, it creates a massive amount all at once. Forbidden because it can fatal of a person who uses it due to the thin distribution of chakra. Naruto has no trouble with it for the most part, because of his chakra reserves, but repeated use can wear him down over time.
'Shiho Happo Shuriken' (Shuriken from All Directions) Pretty self explanatory. Naruto creates a mass of clones to bombard an enemy with shuriken.
'Henge no jutsu' (Transformation Technique) This technique allows the user to transform themselves into someone else, taking on their appearance and their voice etc. While it's a basic technique, chakra is needed to sustain it.
'Oiroke no jutsu' (Sexy Technique) ... yeaaah. This is a variation of the transformation technique, but here Naruto transforms himself into a voluptuous and very naked pretty girl. He uses it to distract men, sometimes giving them nosebleeds that gush hard enough to knock them out.
'Kuchiyose no Jutsu' (Summoning Technique) This is a technique where the user uses their own blood to summon an animal to aid them in some way. The animal is usually bound by a contract with the user. However a variation this technique used with scrolls can also be used to summon other things, such as clones.
'Rasengan' (Spiraling Sphere) The Rasengan is a ball of spinning, highly concentrated chakra. The user shoves it and 'grinds' into an opponent and has been shown to inflict heavy damage if the hit should land. Naruto typically uses a clone to create this technique with, but he's able to do it without clones as well.
There are a few variations of this technique, such as the 'Odama Rasengan' (Great Ball Spiraling Sphere) which is basically just a larger version of the original, but to use it, Naruto does need a clone, as the chakra isn't as stable. The exception to this rule is when Naruto is in sage mode and in Kyuubi mode.
Naruto can also fuse this with elemental wind chakra in order to the 'Futon: Rasenshuriken' (Wind Release: Spiraling Shuriken). Where the Rasengan 'grinds', the Futon: Rasenshuriken 'cuts'. Futon: Rasenshuriken takes on the appearance of a large, four-bladed shuriken, and spins so quickly that it makes a high pitched sound. Unlike the Rasengan, it can be thrown. Naruto can also expand the range of the wind shuriken once he throws it, widening the diameter of damage. It should be noted that it's been shown to cut through mountains in canon. It's basically thousands of microscopic wind blades, or 'needles' which do damage to an opponent's body on a cellular level. It attacks nerves, as well as the chakra circulatory system. Using this technique leaves Naruto very tired though and even when in Sage Mode, he can only use it twice before it depletes his senjutsu chakra.
'Senjutsu' (Sage Techniques). Senjutsu is more a field of jutsu than a single technique. Basically it is the gathering as well as harnessing of natural chakra. When the use draws natural energy into themselves, and combine it with their own chakra, they can create ‘senjutsu chakra’. This chakra can't be seen by anyone, bar someone who also uses senjutsu. Senjutsu drastically increases the speed and strength of the user as well as making them alot more difficult to injure. It can increase attack range of a punch by letting the user mold the chakra around their opponents when they strike, so that a hit doesn't need to land in order to do damage. Additionally, it augments genjutsu, taijutsu and ninjutsu of the user, and it can let them sense other people's chakra in the same way a 'chakra sensor type' can.
'Nine-Tails Chakra Mode'. Like 'Sage Mode' this is more a state than a technique. This is Naruto using and controlling the Kyuubi's chakra. While doing this, Naruto lights up like a fireworks display because of the chakra shroud surrounding his body. I'm talking 'flame on', kinda like The Human Torch. He glows a lot, and he'd probably make a great night light. Using the Kyuubi's chakra his strength is significantly increased, letting him hold up things like a fully formed Tailed Beast Ball, a technique which is so incredibly dense that when Naruto forms one of his own, the ground actually buckles and cracks underneath him. His speed is increased dramatically. The first time he moved using the Kyuubi's chakra, Killer Bee said that all he saw was 'a yellow flash'. He couldn't tell if it was a teleportation technique or not. It's not in fact, it's just Naruto moving faster than most human eyes can follow. In this state, Naruto has been shown able to keep up with the Raikage who is apparently the fastest shinobi alive.
He can also create extensions of his own limbs with this chakra shroud surrounding his body. What I mean is, he can manipulate it to make an arm out of chakra, then he can use these chakra arms to lift things, or smash them, or even to propel his own body forward etc.
While he's in this mode, Naruto can sense negative emotions in other people. This is a very unique ability. In Naruto canon there are ninjas who are sensor types. Naruto himself is one, while he's in Sage Mode. Sensor types can sense other people's chakra and pinpoint their location by doing this, but it's not chakra Naruto can sense while he uses the Kyuubi's chakra, it's human emotions. Specifically things like hate or anger, 'goodness' or 'evil'.
The last is less an ability and more a... quirk. Naruto can turn into a nine tailed fox while he's in this state too, but because of the antagonism the Kyuubi has for him, he can't manage a full-sized Kyuubi, just a miniature goofy version that he can't even maintain for very long.
