Disclaimer: I have no claim on POTC or the lovely characters who populate it, even if it seems that James Norrington has, somewhat disconcertingly, made himself quite at home in my head with no apparent plans to leave. Jack Sparrow has been dropping by at ( Read more... )

Great Story! Everytime I see that you posted a new story I can't wait to read it... :)
I love the idea of them in our modern world and would love to read even more of that! I like the "backstories" you gave them, showing that they are still more or less the same, even after a few hundred years. And I'm still wondering what that tatoo over the heart says ;)

Thank you very much for writing and posting this (and every other) story,
mondora

Thank you very muchly; I'm quite flattered. The idea for this particular story fell, almost fully-formec, into my brain from out of nowhere before I had even fully woken up, and I was forced to write it over five or six hours before even really getting out of bed that day. I'm not sure whether I'll write more of it, but it is a quite intriguing set up, so maybe.

You're more than welcome, and thank you again for the praise.

I'm a sucker for modern-day Sparrington anyway, and this one's just lovely.

I have a bunch of favorite lines but if I had to pick just one, it would have to be: "That was how I found out the fountain was gone" - because SO much is conveyed in just those few words.

I love how it was always their destiny to be together but it's as if they had to live out lifetimes apart, and gain experiences, to become the men they are now who can be together. Now they have eternity. And they have a Mission. That's so cool. ♥

Hope you'll show us more in this universe, now that you've built it. Thank you for this!

I honestly never expected that I'd wind up writing a modern-day, but I think that I've succeeded in my usual goal: approaching my intended concept from multiple odd angles until I get something I've never seen anyone else do before, and which suits my preferred style-palette so that I may paint it in the colors I like.

I love that line, too. It was one of those "the character is talking, not the writer" moments that are always a joy to stumble into.

And that, my dear, was precisely why I wrote the story. What would happen if these two oh-so-independent characters met again half a dozen lifetimes later, when they're the only ones who know each other's origins anymore, and those old grudges have long since been not only overshadowed, but dismissed, until they're looked upon almost nostalgically? That was the fun of it.

No promises yet, love, but I've had a few ideas. Mayhap I'll make something of them.

I enjoyed this immensely! I'm usually very wary of "modern day" stories, but this managed to pull it off beautifully and keep both of them in character. I like the idea of James using his immortality to do something good and help others and Jack using it to... well... steal things.

I cackled a little at the idea of Disney World (that was it, right?) being built on the site of the Fountain of Youth.

And I LOVED that both of them had harbored regrets about not getting to know each other better all those years ago.

In short... bravo. I would love to read more in this universe.

To be honest, I'm usually a little leery of them myself, usually because they tend to strike off-tune chords in my head most of the time. I'm glad to hear I've pulled it off in the eyes of a fellow skeptic. If that's not success, I don't know what is.

It was indeed Disney, and I'm glad you liked that, too. As far as I recall, that one explorer was very much convinced that the fountain of youth was in Florida. My twisted sense of irony just took it from there...

Thank you, again, darling. You've quite improved my day.

Ohhhh, another lovely tale. I'm another one who enjoys the modern-day fics (after all there's so much potential for them what with the number of canon magical whatsits kicking around), especially when they're done well, and this is great and full of lovely details (Norrington gone all James Bond-esque? Jack still a disreputable rogue, despite the downturn in piracy? Yeah, that works!).

Honestly, it made Jack remember a tall and equally dangerous man he’d known ages ago, and whom he’d broken once, on accident, and never gotten the chance to get close to as he might’ve liked.

I love that - it just sums them both up. Plus it makes sense they'd run into each other eventually - unfinished business and all!

I'm glad you like it, m'dear. I do tend to be detail- and characterization-oriented. This was my personal experiment with that "unfinished business" idea, reluctant as I was initially to delve into modern-day waters with this pairing, but I can't often turn down a challenge, especially not when it manifests as a collection of story ideas that coalesced into one, and so invitingly, in my head. My thanks for the lovely review.

I loved this fantastic bit of ficcing you did here. It was incredibly enjoyable to read as I haven't read a modern world story in ages and the sweet sweet passion between the two.

I love the idea of the fountain of youth being built where Disney World is. Honestly, it all makes sense - its totally there, it has to be! No wonder everyone who is welcomed within its archways feel younger at heart!

All in all, I love you, thank you for posting this beautiful piece, I'm going to re-read your other stories now because I'm in love.

Why thank you, m'darling. It was a fun bit of idea-weaving, putting it all together. I've always been a little leery of Modern-era fics myself, so I was a little disconcerted (once the haze of writing-fix wore off) to realize that I'd conceptualized and written one, but it plopped, fully formed, into my head whilst I was trying to get back to sleep one weekend morning, and I think my exact thought was "...Bugger. I can't believe I've got to write all that down, now." That said: I had a lot of fun with it, I'm quite surprisingly proud of it, and I think it's one of my most elegant short stories to date ( ... )

Oh my gosh I would LOVE to draw from your stories. Its just so easy to visualize what you've written and its fantastic! Don't worry, one day (maybe soon I dont really know) THERE WILL BE ART COMING YOUR WAY.

You just keep on writing, love!

I've given a lot of thought to my response, and decided that "SQUEE!" about sums it up. I'll certainly keep writing; I'm quite incapable of stopping. Getting art to go with it would be an added thrill, and I thank you. I'm quite excited to see what you come up with.
