Oh, now that is cute :-) Their snarky banter... and the kiss ♥... and "I'll not be tame, Jack, not even aboard your ship... Know that" Guh.

Now, as for stopping it where you did? Evil. And not very nice. Also, evil. :P

The banter was terribly entertaining; although it was awkward, in retrospect, to realize that (sans the sincerity behind the flirting) their "for show" banter in front of the crew sounded almost exactly like a number of the conversations my roommate and I usually have when we're either bored or deliberately trying to unnerve anyone who happens to be listening.

Yes. I am evil, but it wasn't entirely my fault this time. I tried for half a day to write the rest of the scene and couldn't. The rhythm and the language, and the story-structure itself apparently forbade me, and after a while just declared in a booming cliche-god-like voice "This is where the scene shalt end! Deal with it!" And I was at last forced to let it go. I suppose I'll have to make up for it in the next chapter. I certainly have a few ideas... /evil smirk/

Love the conversation in the boat, and especially this:

Jack eyed the ex-commodore from head to foot, his eyes especially lingering at the laces at James’ shirt-collar, which were loose enough to show the skin just below his collarbone

Just... guh. What a lovely detail. And the end is just perfect, with James all sexy and predatory and Jack all melty. Thanks for all the lovely images.

Thank you muchly.

I'm most assuredly working on it, but work and home are after me like hounds after a fox, so it may take me a bit.

Gaelic, eh? Well, you shall have to provide the backup for that one, m'dear!

But lovely chapter, lovely lovely! You have a distinct lack of angst in your writing, I realize, which is rather startling. Haven't decided quite yet if I like the way James seems so at ease with his transition/idea of the transition.

But anywho! My fave lines which produces giddy squeeing laughter: "leaving Will alone in the dark with his mouth hanging open because he would recognize that voice anywhere, and so now his world made no sense whatsoever."

Wonderful Will line!

and

"I think the most creative had to be when a Scottish officer called me a ‘wolfhound’ which I rather liked at the time; I was, however, drunk."

xDDD

I suppose that reference provides a hint of backup for the Gaelic, but until I see reason why James would choose Gaelic over English... ^__^

I don't know why, but whenever I write James it seems like a very firm thing in my mind that he's got some Gaelic vocabulary at his disposal, and while the versions of James I write are increasingly numerous and varied, one thing that remains the same in his backstory is the reason why he speaks Gaelic: his nurse, when he was quite young, was "as Scottish as clan warfare." Look back at my fic "Beyond the Horizon"; his explanation there is perhaps the most in-depth and amusing so far, if only because he's talking to an irritated and flabbergasted Davy Jones at the time ( ... )

Oh really? Intriguing!! Isn't funny how the oddest little things can sneak into one's personal canon? And did you? Terribly sorry for being so doubtful then! I must have read that... the name sounds familiar, anyhow. *weary sigh ( ... )

Yes, I'm actually not on the whole sure where I got the idea from, as it seems to have come from out of the blue, but somehow the Gaelic has stuck to my James-muse like a barnacle ( ... )
