my favorite part was not harden's cameo via text message now as it cj's verbose rambliness. it was crazy cliff lee and his pilfered baseball. there seems to be some good advice underneath that "stone-cold crazy".

I have no idea what that first sentence is trying to tell me.

it was crazy cliff lee and his pilfered baseball.

I prefer the word "purloined"

Awww, this is so sad and believable. If I weren't a Giants fan, I would have picked the Rangers in this series. Cliff Lee does come off as creepy-stoic (not that we don't have our own blossoming creepy-stoic rookie) and I enjoyed watching him be that way. I loved CJ, though, my favorite Rangers pitcher who I wish I could steal for my own team.

In an alternate universe, I finished the pessimistic fic I started writing for Matt Cain before the WS. Poor CJ and Cliff got Cain'd in their games. (Poor Matty the consistent workhorse usually gets terrible run support and has a bad W-L record despite actually being a good pitcher. See this and this and a special message just for CJ.)

tl;dr: I liked it. Hope for a rematch next year and hope Cliff stays in Texas.

I'm a Giants fan! Like, way more than of the Rangers. I'm totally used to the concept of getting Cain'd. Poor Matt Cain.

Oops, haha. Still, mmmm, CJ.

I still haven't worked up a pairing for Cain yet. I'm sure next season, after a devastating 1-0 loss, something will work itself out.

I have a friend who's trying to convince me of Cain/Lincecum and I just can't. I can't. Tim Lincecum is unslashable. So I feel you.

Oh, wow. This is really, really, really good. It's sad, but not... devastating. It captures, really well, what it's like to lose the World Series, I think, like someone said above. It seemed very much in CJ Wilson's voice, and I got a pretty good sense of Cliff Lee's personality too.

Also, the Rich Harden/Barry Zito thing made me laugh out loud.

errr "sad but not devastating" sounds stupid. Like, I meant that it was sad, but I could read it without wanting to kill myself.

But yeah. Fantastic job.

Ahhhh, I love this. Cars and moral principles and Facebook fans, oh, CJ. This definitely rings true to me as his voice, quirky and rambling as it is, and I love his bitchiness at poor Richie, ahaha. Great stuff.

I started to dislike CJ Wilson a little bit the more interviews I watched/listened to in order to write this. He's... kind of a I-need-to-take-you-in-small-doses douche, but he was fun to write. I'm glad you thought the voice rang true. Thank you!

I like how completely different they are, Wilson and Lee. Because they are very different, at some very basic levels, but you don't see that too often in baseball fic for some reason. Maybe because it's hard to imagine two guys so very different relating, although they're on the same staff so they must, at least a little bit.

Also

patting your shoulder in that I-wish-you-were-into-the-senseless-murder-of-woodland-creatures-for-sport-so-we-could-really-bond way he has

I think this was a really good example of it, both for the fact that I can exactly picture it as a mannerism (? or whatever) of Lee's, and for the fact that Wilson would think of it that way.

I think it probably helps that Cliff Lee is largely indifferent to his surroundings and that Wilson had a huge mancrush on him from the start. Some of the funniest interviews ever in Indians postgame shows were Lee ones. The Indians TV guys are FLAMING idiots and Lee would totally shut them down. I kinda miss him just for that.
