2008 Presidential Candidate Matching Quiz i obviously have a political boner for this mike gravel fellow, as does pretty much everyone else on my flist. but who is this guy? and why have i never heard of him?
some cursory searching led to the discovery of
his myspace, and i am very confused about what having politicians on myspace means for politics. i also found a trib
story with the headline, "Gravel tells kids: Use pot over alcohol." but despite the trib's brilliant political analysis, I STILL HAVEN'T HEARD OF HIM.
before i explore this further, please take a minute to venture over to his official running-for-president website at
http://www.gravel2008.us/. please tell me what you see in the masthead. no wait, none of you are going to go over there; you are probably just as lazy as i am! so i will put it here:
the monstrosity between "GRAVEL" and "08" is THE WRONG APOSTROPHE. the apostrophe should be facing the other way. it should be shaped like a 9, not like a 6.
AND THIS IS WHY I WILL NOT CONSIDER VOTING FOR MIKE GRAVEL. IF YOU HAVE NOT MASTERED THE APOSTROPHE IN YOUR SEVENTY-SEVEN YEARS HERE ON EARTH, HOW CAN YOU DO ANY GOOD FOR ANYONE. HUH?
that's what i thought. ok, so once i got past that GLARING error, and trust me it took a while, i was able to briefly examine the content on his site. turns out he's still working to get on state ballots, which might be why i've never heard of him.
or maybe i've never heard of him because i care less and less about politics? i was recently shocked to discover that mike huckabee is a legitimate candidate. i was wrong in assuming that the newsfolk were just waaay behind the times in giving up their love for i <3 huckabees.
and for the record, my knowledge of kucinich is limited to, "he's a vegetarian!" i learned this from alyssa waaay back in first year, when he was lacing up his (obviously leather-free) sneakers and trying to run in 2004. i haven't ever checked on the accuracy of the statement, though, and i doubt i ever will. turns out i care about what other people put into their mouths about as much as i care about what they put into their other orifices.
let me repeat: I DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU PUT INTO YOUR MOUTH. i wish you felt the same way about me.
but back on topic. political apathy. i recently read a thing that i liked. and here i wish to completely remove it from the context in which i encountered it, namely a book called taking back the streets. the book's subtitle is adventures in urban anarchy, and you'd be a fool if you thought the chapter on critical mass had nothing to do with my purchase. so the thing is, and this goes outside the cut so everyone can see it:
never mind the ballots, reclaim the streets.
