You are all writing letters to Santa-- is that Father Christmas? I have heard of Father Christmas. And I read of the German tradition. Saint Nicholas, and of course Odin. Though Odin is a Norse God.

Is either of them truly going to fulfil our wishes, or is it merely the City playing a trick on us again?

[When Tim sees Tessa's post, he stops what he's doing and goes to find Tessa, rapping on a wall in a sort of knock to announce his arrival.]

[ Tessa's sitting on her bed, a book by her side, the device in her hands, clearly lost in thought until the knock.

When she sees Tim, she smiles. A little weak, perhaps, but a smile nevertheless. ]

[He takes the smile, however weak it is, as an invitation and steps inside, flopping down on her bed.] What you readin'?

A Tale of Two Cities. [ She gestures vaguely to the book. She wasn't actually reading it-- she wanted to, because it's her favourite and she knows it so well that the characters are like old friends, that it provides comfort, but Will has quoted Sidney a few times, and now the book only serves to remind her of Will. It's almost like losing two people, instead of one. ]

But I was not really. Reading. [ A little frown. ]

Oh, but especially in Germany very many parallels were drawn between Odin and Saint Nicholas. The German tradition for the holiday stems from Odin.

The 'One-eyed stranger' is also know for sometimes taking a delight in stirring up trouble amongst lesser beings.

Father Christmas and Santa are the same, as far as I know, yeah.

[ He pauses. ]

... Was that a friend of yours?

[ More quietly: ] He was-- the only other person from my world and time, here. A Shadowhunter. I would not-- We were not truly friends, I do not think. We were not even close. [ And, under her breath ] No more.

[ But Will was still the first person she truly fell in love with, and her first kiss. And the first man to break her heart. ]

[ McCoy swallows. Shit, that's gotta be rough, even if they weren't friends and weren't close. It's still someone from her world. He knows, if he weren't here alone, no matter how much he'd try to deny it, that he'd miss someone from home if they were here and then left. Even Spock. ]

[ And perhaps Tessa shouldn't trust McCoy as much as she does, considering that she barely knows the man, but regardless, she adds - barely audible: ] I used to be very much in love with him.

Perhaps so, yes. I think Santa is merely a new name for an existing figure, at least in my world.
