Finn Hudson11:08 pm Finn was feeling excited. A long talk with Sam and he was feeling better about the whole mess of his love life. It felt like he was in the air for hours, then going through the airport took forever. When he was finally on terraferma it took almost no time to get a cab and he was outside Rachel and Kurt's building. That was when the doubt started to kick in. Cautiously he called the appartment.
Kurt Hummel 11:16 pm Kurt's had a lot on his mind the lately. Between Rachel and Finn, he isn't sure what's going on, where they all stand, or when Finn is coming back. The LA thing has him worried a little bit. Rachel's reaction to everything has him even more worried. And he's so lost in his own head that it takes him a moment to realize Finn was calling. He takes a deep breath, slowly exhaling before giving Rachel a look and answering. "Finn?"
Rachel Berry 11:22 pm It had been getting harder for Rachel, this not knowing. In her mind she couldn't understand why they couldn't be together if they loved one another. Rachel broke it down to the base and didn't think about complications. When the phone started to ring she looked up from where she was laying on the couch, frowning when Kurt looked at her. Hearing him say that name, Rachel sat up, perched on the edge of her seat so she could listen in,
Finn Hudson11:24 pm "So, how you doing?" he asked groaning as he heard how very lame he sounded. "Sorry, that's stupid. Um..... " he wasn't sure what to say. He'd felt so confident before but now he felt like an idiot. After a long moment he said "How's Rachel?"
Kurt Hummel 11:30 pm He presses his head close to Rachel's so she can hear too. "I'm fine. You... you've been on my mind a lot. On Rachel's mind too." He pulls the phone away from their heads for a second to turn it on speaker phone, so Rachel can speak too. "Rachel's here too. I uh, I put you on speaker phone so she could talk to you too."
Rachel Berry 11:33 pm Rachel listened for a moment, hearing his voice gave her butterflies but she shook her head at Kurt's words. She knew she'd say something wrong if she tried to say something. "Just tell him I miss him," she said softly, "Tell him I miss him and that he should come home soon." And with that she stood, pacing back and forth behind the couch because she didn't want to make matters worse.
Finn Hudson11:34 pm "You want me to go back to lima?" he asked with a light teasing voice although he was sure it wasn't what she meant. "So standing outside your Appartment panicing about ringing the bell isn't where I should be?" he asked.
Kurt Hummel 11:38 pm He gives Rachel a smug look when it becomes obvious that Finn heard her. He had no intention of being the go between for these two. If the three of them can't talk, then what's the point to any of it? What Finn says next has him gaping at the phone in surprise. "You're here? Really? Oh god... this is exactly where you should be, Finn Hudson."
Rachel Berry 11:42 pm When Kurt gave Rachel that smug look she just frowned at him, not understanding why he was looking at her the way he was. But her frown fell at his words and her eyes darted towards the door. She let out a shaking breath, having to stop herself from running to the door and opening it. Rachel remembered Kurt's words from before, Finn wanted them to be friends and her opening the door, flinging her arms around him and kissing him wouldn't be friendly. So she waited for Kurt to open the door.
Finn Hudson11:44 pm "So... gonna let me in?" he asked his voice almost trembling over the phone line as he rubbed his palms on the legs of his trousers.
Kurt Hummel 11:50 pm He hands the phone to Rachel, running to the door and flinging it open. He hesitates for only a moment before throwing his arms around Finn in a tight hug, much like the one last time Finn surprised them for a visit. He doesn't kiss him or make the hug any more intimate than it would be with a friend. He's still not sure where any of this is going, so he's just going to stick with what he knows for now. "I'm glad you're back." He takes a step back so Finn can come in.
Rachel Berry 11:53 pm Taking the phone from Kurt, Rachel hangs up but keeps hold of it so there's something in her hands. Something to distract her. She watches Kurt rush to the door, she watches him open it and hug Finn. When Finn steps into the apartment she raises her hand and waves at him, trying to keep this as 'friend' based as possible. "Hi."
Finn Hudson11:54 pm Finn grinned returning Kurt's hug before moving over to Rachel "Hey" he smiled softly before stepping up and hugging her "Sorry I freaked" he said softly.
Kurt Hummel 11:59 pm He rolls his eyes when Rachel only waves at Finn and shuts the door as Finn goes over to hug her. He smiles a little as he watches them, just glad to have Finn back with them. Finn said he'd come back, but Kurt couldn't be sure it would actually happen until he saw him outside their door.
Rachel Berry 12:06 am When Finn hugged her, Rachel hugged him back a little awkwardly, she couldn't shake the need to keep this as just friends, and Rachel didn't trust herself to give him a real hug. When he let her go, Rachel set the phone back in it's cradle and leant against the wall, "It's good that you came back."
Finn Hudson12:09 am "I'm sorry I freaked out, but, It seemed a shock" he looked at Kurt, "Am I forgiven?"
Kurt Hummel 12:12 am "Of course you're forgiven, silly. I get why you wanted to leave and I get why you freaked. You handled the whole thing with more grace than I probably would have if I found out you were dating my ex." He bites his lip before continuing. "I'm sorry about some of the things I said at the airport."
Rachel Berry 12:16 am "You sort of did freak out when you thought he'd been with your ex," Rachel muttered, probably not helping the situation at all. "Can I get you something to eat or drink? I-I'm sure you're hungry." Oh she was being all avoidy.
Finn Hudson12:18 am Finn almost cringed, he'd broken Rachel, he was quiet sure that was, what was wrong. He looked to Kurt "Deserved it I guess" he said softly. "Um, Coffee?" he asked "I'm exhausted"
Kurt Hummel 12:21 am He waves his hand dismissively. "That was a mostly internal freakout aimed at Blaine." He looked from one of them to the other and holds back a tired sigh. Clearly this isn't going to be much easier than the last time Finn was here, but hopefully there won't be any fighting. "You didn't deserve it, Finn. I don't really think of you that way."
Rachel Berry 12:26 am "Coffee it is." She said with a nod and headed for the kitchen to make him a mug of coffee. As she headed in there she glanced over at Kurt and gave him half a smile, hoping that she was doing just what he wanted her to do and be a friend.
Finn Hudson12:27 am Watching Rachel, Finn sighed, as she went into the Kitchen he asked "She's not forgiven me?"
Kurt Hummel 12:32 am He gives Rachel a reassuring smile before turning to look as Finn in confusion. "Is that what you think?" He sighs and motions for Finn to sit down on the couch. "She's trying not to pressure you into anything more than friendship. It's just... hard, so she's holding herself back a bit." He sits down on the couch, glancing toward the kitchen for a second. "I'll get my room set up for you in a little bit. I'm going to sleep in Rachel's room like before." Except it won't be like before, because Finn won't be there sleeping with them.
Rachel Berry 12:35 am Busying herself in the kitchen, Rachel started to gather food items they could nibble on if they got hungry. And more than that it kept her mind busy so she didn't have to think about what was going on in the other room. Of course she knew how Finn took his coffee, and made it just the way he liked it, and the food arranging gave her an excuse to take a little longer.
Finn Hudson12:38 am "Holding back is that hard?" he scowled a little "She's not comfortable being just a friend? As a start?" he asked quietly. Nodding about the sleeping arrangements "That's ok" he nodded
Kurt Hummel 12:43 am "It's not as easy for her as it is for me. She knows what it's like to be with you. She just... needs to get used to doing things differently." He pauses. "Not that this isn't hard for me. The whole situation is complicated. But I'm used to waiting and I'm not sure I know how not to hold back." It weird, because as much as they have in common, in some ways they couldn't be more different. "You'll let me know if you need anything? More pillows, extra blankets? I want you to be comfortable here."
Rachel Berry 12:48 am With Finn's coffee in her hand, Rachel headed back into the living room and handed it to him, giving him a slight reserved smile as she did. Then off she was again, bringing a couple of platters of food into the room and setting them on the table before going back to get plates and her own drink of water. Rachel moved to sit down on the floor opposite the couch Kurt was on, doing her best to still keep some distance from Finn. Realzing she hadn't got a drink for Kurt, she stood once again and headed to the kitchen to get him something. She didn't ask what he wanted because that would mean opening her mouth. And that was a dangerous thing.
Finn Hudson12:52 am "Thanks Kurt, I'll let you know- although first thing comes to mind is telling me how to put Rachel at ease" he sighed softly scratching the back of his neck "Oh by the way? Sam says hi" he smiled "It was great seeing him, he looked as good as he always does, found myself feeling fat, always surprises me that" he blushed. He wasn't fishing for compliments, it just was how he felt, it had to do with Sam's confidence.
Kurt Hummel 12:59 am He stares at Rachel incredulously as she leaves the room again. Surely she didn't think this was making it easier for any of them, herself included. "Honestly? You need to talk to her. I can be there if you think it would make things easier, but the two of you seriously just need to talk and figure out how this is going to work. She seems to think you wanting to be friends means you don't want her." He rolls his eyes and gives Finn a shrug. "How is Sam? I haven't seen him in so long. And don't be dumb. You know you aren't fat. Though I suppose I'd feel fat next to him too." He laughs. "I felt fat when you were here last time. During truth or dare."
