A bed shortage means that you're not going to get high quality care no matter how high risk you are. Most midwives will tell you to stay home as long as possible , simply because midwives understand that women labor more comfortably and more effectively at home. Stay home and enjoy your shower if you can. Basically your midwife is probably worried that they're going to force you into a bed because you're high risk, and then not have the staff to take care of you properly. Is there another hospital available? I know it's late to change, but if the bed shortage is that bad, I would worry about care quality and the possibility of illness spreading.
