Jonathan's super-geeky. Like. Intensely so. So much that he might accidentally tell your characters that they're fictional (provided it was released prior to 2002, since that's the year he's from). I'm going to assume that other than her psionic ability to manipulate the weather, he'd know that she's native to Kenya, was a thief in her childhood, was worshiped as a rain goddess by her tribe... Got recruited into the X-Men, went through a drastically infamous make-over involving leather jackets and mohawks in the 80's. But that's her comic counterpart. Feel free to confuse her, if he doesn't know about this version!

Anything huge he would know about your character that I can't get from a quick Google search?: Not really, the Wikia pretty much tells all. Unfortunately a lot of info about Zack wasn't released until his specific game, Crisis Core, was released (2007/2008) so if he knows FFVII all he'd know is the basics of Zack's character in the first game. If you need me to specify, I'd be happy to! ...Also his eyes glow, THIS IS V. NOTICEABLE |D
Dos: I'm good with almost anything; Zack will probably just laugh the fictional thing off anyway.
Don'ts: I'd really rather Zack not know that he dies yet, so it would be fabulous if that wasn't mentioned /o/

Can he recognize them: Her specifically, no. Her card/story was released after his canon point. However, I wouldn't be surprised if he recognized the term planeswalker and most of the ideas from her universe.
Anything huge he would know about your character that I can't get from a quick Google search?: No - as mentioned, he wouldn't know her.
Dos: Whatever, but be warned that if he seems to know too much she's likely to attempt to pummel/burn answers out of him.
Don'ts: Recognize her, just 'cuz canon points. ^^;
