as you might guess i can relate to this. choosing things often means never getting to see how all the other things would turn out and we don't have hindsight until later :-). if it was a pretty big decision this can suck or even be fatal, plus some decisions with heavy consequences have to be made in an instant. i have been aware of this since i was a small child taking an hour to decide on which candy to get with my small allowance. this is a petty, bourgeois quandry, but illustrative of any decision one has to make where choosing one thing means not getting to see where all the other choices go. of course sometimes you can try the other candies later. i sometimes wonder if a life contemplating possible figs might not be better than a the life of a single fig. fruit is always risky, what if you get a bad fig or a fig with a worm in it or something ( ... )

Well, perhaps my quandry is not petty, but it certainly is bourgeois. :/ What a thing to have too many choices!

When I was in Virginia, everybody said hello to me. I wouldn't say people were friendlier there, necessarily, but the everyday social etiquette was very different. People here are private, overly concerned with what others think, with what is normal.
