Appearance Yuri is - as X-Play calls it - your typical androgynous Japanese RPG protagonist. Many people who aren't really used to, well, Japanese male characters at all often mistake him for a pretty girl. He's got long, black hair, parted to the side, and his eyes are a bit large for his age (he looks like a mouse in the animation sequences, seriously :/). His two jacket shirt thingies are open chest, and the darker shirt has purple swirlies designs, and the lighter outer shirt has black designs on it. He's got a brown belt that's tied funny in the back, with more funny yellow designs. He wears tight pants, then the strangest kind of boots anyone has ever seen, where the opening starts out in the front then wraps around to the side. Yeah. Weird.

Personality At first glance, it seems that the only way Yuri differs from other Tales heroes is his age. But really, that's not all. He's much more mature, level-headed, and rational, not to mention that the thought of fighting doesn't freak him out and isn't afraid to kill someone if necessary. This doesn't mean he's so much a bad guy, though. His sense of humor is something like a subtle sarcasm and can be pretty brutal about his jokes when he wants to be. He is incredibly sure of himself, and has a serious sense of right and wrong. He wants justice and he knows just how he wants to carry out his justice, but unlike his counterpart Flynn, he prefers to work outside the rules and isn't afraid to go against society norms and expectations to achieve his goal. His "justice temper" is pretty horrid, and extremely scary. If anyone commits a crime that Yuri deems abominable, he will take any means necessary to see that the proper justice is served. Seriously, it's FUCKING SCARY. Apart from that, though, he's a pretty laid back guy, and totally just goes with the flow. Most of the time when it comes to a, "where/what should we do next" kind of situation, he leaves it totally up to the others, unless something is really bugging him.

Yuri is surprisingly good at cooking, as well, and he doesn't mind cooking all the time (since... well, growing up with Flynn, Flynn wasn't the best cook, and that's an understatement...)

Oh, he also will never wear a dress or defile himself like that. He's too proud, dude.

Abilities/Strengths Fighting and skills-wise, Yuri is pretty good with a sword. Or ax. Or his fist. Y'know, whatever suits the mood at the moment. He's also a bit on the fast side, and a flashy fighter. He's very confident and sure of himself, and isn't afraid to take risks. ...But that could be a bad thing. :/ He's not really afraid of anything, either. He also has a pretty good instinct, usually his hunches are correct (he was the first to know Estelle was a princess).

Weaknesses He's not too keen on rules; he doesn't really like to follow them which society doesn't like too much. Y'know, he wasn't arrested an uncountable amont of times for nothing. He's an unruly kid, really.

History Spoilers, by the way.

Yuri grew up in the lower quarter (aka poor people part) of the capital city of Zaphias along with his bff Guy-Cecil-lookalike Flynn, where they did a lot of stuff together and pretty much had the same dreams. They learned how to fight with a sword, and vowed that they would one day join the Imperial Knights so they could achieve the justice that they both so love. When they were old enough, they did indeed join the knights, but... it didn't really click with Yuri. He wanted to achieve justice, but he knew the way the knights did it wasn't exactly his thing (he also looks really bad in the uniform, if that counted for anything). After a short three months he quit, leaving he and Flynn on their separate ways.

After he left the knights, he became pretty infamous with the authority since he had committed so many crimes, being thrown in jail over and over again. Yuri's way of achieving justice for his little part of town wasn't really working for him, was it?

Regardless, the lower quarters' aque blastia (aka, fountain) (also blastia=machines that keep the society up and running) decided to stop working so they hired a mage to fix it. But as luck always is, the core that makes the blastia work was stolen instead, causing the lower quarter to flood. Yuri knew that even if they asked for help, the knights wouldn't come. So what does he do? Go himself! Easy.

With his trusty puppy Repede they head on up to the nobles' quarter to get it back from that mage Mordio or whoever that stole it. But this is Yuri. This is also a Tales game. It doesn't take very long for the knights to catch up to him and throw him in jail. ...Again.

After a tip from an old man in the cell next door, he slips out of the cell and starts to explore the castle, when he finds a woman being confronted by knights. Well, Yuri and his justice SAVE THE PRINCESS attitude, intervened, fought of the knights, and saved her. He discovered that she is looking for Flynn, so they agree to go together - to find Flynn for the lady, and to get that aque blastia back from that mysterious Mordio. So, they set out in the castle. They decide to stop by Flynn's room to see if he is there, but he's not. They're about to turn around and leave when this batshit guy comes in going all I'M GOING TO KILL YOU FLYNN SCIFOOOOO, and Yuri ends up fighting up, trying to tell this crazy kid (named Zagi) that he is NOT Flynn.

After the fight, they conclude that Flynn's not around, so they decide to leave. After the girl makes a quick costume change, they decide to find the secret passage on the way out. The girl reveals her name is Estellise and Yuri's like lolk. So they head back down to the lower quarter just to see how everyone's doing, when a knight named Leblanc and his little crew show up and Yuri, Estelle, and Repede manage to escape outside the city thanks to the people at the lower quarter.

Yuri's quest now is to find the aque blastia then head back to the lower quarter; Estelle tags along in hopes of maybe bumping into Flynn along the way. They decide to stop by the nearest town, Halure, to see if he is there (and on the way to Aspio - Yuri received a hint that the Mordio guy is there) so they decide to go through Deidon Hold. Unfortunately and with great timing, a rabid group of monsters decide to attack the Hold, and in an act of bravery, Yuri and Estelle save a bunch of people who were outside the gate. With the gate closed, they decide to go through a forest instead (aka the long way around). Near the exit they bump into this little wimp named Karol and he decides to tag along.

They reach Halure and they see that monsters attack because the barrier blastia is out due to the magical tree. Karol knows how to fix it so they go back into the woods and get the items then returned to the tree and fixed it. When they thought everything was okay, the Imperial Knights show up so they decide to leave.

Now it's time to head to Aspio! They arrive at the city in a cave and after a little trouble, get in and find Mordio... who is Rita, a young girl. Rita claims that SHE DIDN'T DO IT and decides to clear her name and takes them to Shaikos Ruins. They find out that the person who stole the core for the aque blastia in the lower quarter really ISN'T Rita and that their base is located in a place called Capua Nor. LUCKILY! Turns out Flynn is headed in that direction too. It all works out!

So Rita decides to tag along with this crew and they reach the Nor Harbor. Yuri runs off and he gets attacked by some weird assassin people, when he is magically saved by Flynn! REUNION! After fighting off the baddies, they return to the group and then have a nice chat. They discuss the weather problem in the town and you know what Yuri decides? He's gonna fix it. After some trouble they get into the magistrate's house with the help of this mysterious old man and they find that the magistrate, Ragou, had been manipulating the weather with this special blastia and then some mysterious person on a dragon comes and destroys it.

They follow the escaped Ragou onto a ship by some guy named Barbos, and they fight Zagi again, and they learn about the Blood Alliance, some guild. The ship sinks and they end up at the other end of the strait, at Torim Harbor.

They get some info that the Blood Alliance was headed to some ruins called Caer Bocram and they head there, only to find that they had been mistaken and it's only the Hunting Blades, a guild dedicated to killing monsters. So they decide to head back when LUCKILY! the Knights show up. Yuri is arrested and taken to the city Heliord, and questioned for his crimes. Just when he thought he was going to be taken to jail again, he is excused by the Commandant Alexei by orders from Prince Ioder. So Yuri goes back out and reunites with everyone.

Turns out the barrier blastia in that town was going crazy too, with the aer (particles that allow things to exist, but the catch is too little=bad, and too much=bad) emitted from it being way too much and they fix it. Rita's knocked out, Estelle's worried, and Karol makes the suggestion to Yuri that they should make a deal. Not a bad idea, he thinks, since guilds operate separately from the Empire. After all's well, Karol makes the suggestion that they should go to Dahngrest, the guild city. That's no problem!

They arrive at the guild city and turns out the barrier blastia's bust there, too. What luck. After a serious monster attack they go and follow the leader of all guilds, Don Whitehorse to a nice foresty place where it seemed the source of the problem and attack was. Too much aer=lots of problems. They reach the most inner part (the old guy who helped them into the magistrate's house earlier, Raven, tags along, by the way) and they discover an aer krene, where aer is produced, and a LOT is being produced. All of a sudden, some pretty guy appears out of nowhere named Duke all like hey sup with this pretty sword. His sword has the weird power to neutralize aer, so the levels are put back to normal and the monsters calm down. Problem solved, back to Dahngrest.

Back at the city, they go visit the Don and Flynn's already there. Yuri asks the Don about Barbos, who's apparently stealing the blastia, and Flynn gives a letter to the Don regarding the manner. It turns out to be different from what he expects. Flynn claims its a trap and is thrown in jail. Oops. Yuri's thinking that leaving him isn't such a good idea, and tricks the group into thinking he left his wallet behind, and leaves them.

He finds Flynn in prison and they have a quick chat, and he takes out the lock for him and Flynn tells Yuri to take his place, he's gonna defend the city. The Don finds out and he sees that Yuri doesn't really like how the empire's working for him. Tells him he's got two options: work to change it like Flynn, or turn his back on it. His choice is pretty obvious. The Don lets him out and tells him to catch the rat that set this up. So he's free!

Well, he gets outside and what luck, the Blood Alliance is in town. He reunites with his party and heads to hunt them down. They find both Barbos AND Ragou and give Barbos a good talking. They learn of Barbos' plans, and see that Flynn is trying desperately to stop the looming war. Things start to get ugly but Barbos ends up escaping. The dragon rider person appears and Yuri hitches a ride to go after him.

They find this tower in the nearby area and find the blastia that's creating a lot of unnecessary power. Barbos appears and Yuri fights off his men. Unfortunately, Barbos throws Yuri in jail. Awesome! But the dragon rider appears and turns out to be... a lady. A rather attractive one at that. But after a little scheming, he, she, and the other prisoners break free. He learns her name is Judith and they go up to destroy the blastia. There, the rest of the group greets them, and they kill Barbos.

After that, they head back to Dahngrest and find out that Ragou's sentence for the crimes he comitted were minimal. What? In Yuri's mind, this doesn't make sense whatsoever. So that night, he decides to take justice into his own hands... aka, kill him. The next morning, Ragou is only reported as missing. No word is said. They all think their journey's over so Rita leaves, and they all decide to go their separate ways.

All of a sudden, this freaky bird thing appears calling Estelle "insipid poison". What? They fight it off and they flee the city. After a bit of walking, they decide to create their own guild: Brave Vesperia, with Karol as leader, and Yuri and Judith as members. Estelle says that she wants to know why this bird - called Phaeroh - called her poison, so the guild decides to escort her and find out why. They head to Torim Harbor to catch a boat to the desert. They have to pass through Heliord though, and turns out Rita got herself into a bit of trouble there and they get her out. They find some guy named Yeager and some creep Cumore who are up to something so they follow them and FIGHT. But no matter, Flynn comes to save the day and they're on their merry way.

At the harbor, Raven shows up and they meet up with this one guild leader who asks them to do a favor, and escort their ship to the other side to Nordopolica. They agree, and on the way bump into this creepy ghost ship which appears to be around thousands of years old, grab a box containing some "clear ciel crystal", and head out.

Raven's got a letter he needs to deliver to the leader of Nordopolica Belius, and turns out they can't meet her til the next new moon until a man from another guild asks Yuri to fight someone who's trying to take over the coliseum. So Yuri fights, when Zagi interrupts and the blastia on Zagi's arm goes nuts, explodes pretty much, and lets free all the caged monsters in the coliseum and monsters attack and the group escapes.

They go through this cave thing to escape and at the other end of the cave they find the desert! Which means Phaeroh! They rest up at Mantaic, the oasis, and then head out. But after they'd been traveling for days, some creepy monster comes out of nowhere and attacks them. After the arduous fight, they all collapse and when they wake up they find that they ended up in some place called Yormgen, with no barrier whatsoever and find the chick who needs the box they found on the ghost ship.

No luck, though, they can't find Phaeroh (who turns out to be an Entelexeia, ancient, speaking beings who are really cool) so they head back through the desert to Mantaic. There, they see Cumore shipping off innocent people into the desert. Does this piss Yuri off or what.

That night, Yuri gives Cumore what he deserves and Flynn catches him. They have a nice, long chat which ultimately ends up in them disagreeing on views and breaking off paths altogether, and Estelle overhears. Poor thing. Everyone else learns too, and they head out.

Well, it's almost new moon time so they head back to Nordopolica. After a few more minor mishaps, they finally arrive and learn that Belius is an Entelexeia too! They ask about Estelle being poison, but they learn nothing really, when the Hunting Blades show up ready to kill Belius. After a fight, Belius gets severely wounded and ... well, Estelle tries to help but Belius ends up dying instead and turns into a shiny rock so they take the rock and get outta there before the Flynn brigade tries to arrest them. The rock, called Apatheia, is supposed to be delivered back to the Don so that's what they decide to do.

On the boat on the way to Dahngrest, Judith destroys the blastia and reveals that she was the dragon rider to the rest of the group and takes off. Everyone decides that Yuri being a serial killer and Judith being a blastia killer is too much to handle and everyone's all aslkfjaslkdfj.

At Dahngrest, they learn that there were some not-so-peaceful negotiations between Yeager and the Don so they go and check it out at Yeager's headquarters, but the Don had already escaped back to Dahngrest so that was kind of useless, and since the guilds have this "eye for an eye" concept, the Don commits suicide because of Belius' death (Belius' guild was the rival to the Don's) and asks Yuri to assist. Yuri reflects how he ended up killing someone he really didn't want to and proclaims that it sucks.

So with nothing else to do, they decide to go find Judith and judging by where the Hunting Blades are going (to get Ba'ul, Judith's pet) they head to Mount Temza, a... flattened mountain. At the summit, they find her and question her, and all is well and Ba'ul becomes an Entelexeia, a flying whale! They attach their ship to his belly and now they have a makeshift airplane.

Now with their makeshift airplane they FINALLY get to go meet Phaeroh. Phaeroh describes Estelle, and how she's poison to the world (her power using up too much aer which in turn makes the aer krene create more aer than is needed and too much aer = bad) and is determined to kill her. Yuri says, NUH UH PRINCESS. And that killing Estelle is WRONG. But, after killing two people HE determined as "bad" this ends up being hypocritical. Oh well. But after negotiating and talking, Phaeroh ends up not killing Estelle.

So they head on up to the city of the people of Judith's race, the Krityans, to learn more about Estelle and why she's bad. The mayor tells them about a catastrophe a long time ago due to the human's obsession with blastia, which in turn used too much aer. The inbalance of aer created this huge crazy tentacle monster thing called the Adephagos which threatened to eat the world, basically. In shock, Raven leaves and Estelle runs away.

But surprise! Raven is nowhere to be found and neither is Estelle. Turns out that Commandant Alexei kidnapped Estelle to use her power for the forces of ~evil~ and Yuri does not like this. So they chase them down to this shrine place, and at the deepest part of the shrine, Duke shows up and gives Yuri Dein Nomos (a sword that can neutralize aer) and they find Alexei who kills another Entelexeia and then flees with Estelle, leaving them to fight Captain Schwann who is actually Raven who actually died ten years ago and is a zombie fueled by blastia?! No way. They have a bit of a fight, and escape.

They find that Alexei must be on this crazy walking robot rhino thing called the Heracles and they infiltrate it with the help of Raven and they all give him a bit of a beat down for being stupid. Yuri called first dibs, by the way.

Anyway, they get to the control room, and find out that HE'S NOT THERE. Instead, Zagi shows up and they have to fight him AGAIN. After he's taken care of and they're saved by Yeager, they go to the boiler room place and find that the Apatheia there is about to send a lazer beam to destroy Zaphias (the capital, it's been a while, I know). THAT'S BAD. They try to stop it and it doesn't work but with the help of Flynn and his crew they manage to divert the beam.

SOO they decide to get to the capital and see that ESTELLE'S LOSING HERSELF. Estelle begs Yuri to kill her and he's like NO BITCH and yells the trademark Tales ESTEELEEEE!!! which isn't quite as epic as CLAAAIIIIIREEE!!! but that's besides the point. Shit blows up. No really, shit does blow up. Alexei pushes Estelle beyond her limit and she finally loses herself, and in an explosion of power, they party is all blown way far away.

Everyone's safe, but they decide to go to Nor Harbor for a doctor. After they rest for a little bit they need to get back to the capital and fast. They learn of a longer way around called Zopheir. They make a quick pitstop back in Halure. After a talk with Prince Ioder, Yuri runs off on his own and ends up back in the woods where they first meet Karol. He reminisces a bit before dozing off a little. He's woken up by Karol who's pretty angry at him for running away and same with Rita who's throwing fireballs at him. They all scold him for thinking that he could do this on his own and finally admits that they're a team. Stupid loner. After that they head back to Zaphias, get into the castle, and after a serious one-on-one fight with Estelle, they manage to get her back to normal.

So after she's back they learn that Alexei revived an ancient city that was meant to protect the world against the Adephagos, the serious business tentacle monster that threatened to envelop the world a long time ago. So they find him, fight together, but it turns out they were too late, and the barrier was deactivated and the Adephagos appeared. Alexei dies, of course, but the almost out of nowhere, one of Flynn's minions named Sodia comes and stabs Yuri and Yuri falls off the floating piece of rock they were on. Grand huh? That's when he ends up in Template.
